Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your hate towards triathletes is pathetic and quite sad, actually. You should really find some way to get past it.

It's hard to get past tri guys. They're always on the front going 27mph, and they never want to pull off. I like that.

lol at the article, i kind of think people should mind their own business when it comes to telling others how to run their bikes.

do people like this also go outside on a cold day, and point at people wearing a light sweather and say, "AREN'T YOU COLD??!" no. so why would you do the same on a bike?

in related news, some cager told me my rear light "wasn't cutting it" last night.. i wanted to twist him into the ground myself.. cursed him the whole way home. i mean, if my light was so bad, how'd he see me? he's lucky my girl wasn't with me!

Strap on about 5 of these so they can complain that you're blinding them. Much more fun.

Lots of tough guys on here... kind of makes me feel inadequate when I think that the last time I was told by a cager to get a light I only replied with "thank you, I will" and moved on.

Actually I only get mad at cagers when running. Too many have ran into the crosswalk and almost hit either me or my dog. I can't tell you how many times I enter the crosswalk and a car barely misses us as it takes a right turn. Its more the anger from my dog almost getting hit. I'm not being a badass, just legitimately pissed. When I'm on the bike things usually happen so quickly there's no point, and even if there is I'm really vulnerable.

Hey furiousferret, whats the go with crosswalks in the states? I saw an American guy just walk straight out onto it here in Sydney the other day, he screamed at the car that went past him.

here in Australia, it means it's a safe place to cross and cars will give way to you if you are already on the thing, but this chap just jumped right out into the road with cars coming along at speed assuming thye all stop instantly or something.

I guess you guys are a bit lawsuit happy in the states, so maybe that has something to do with it?

And Madison is one of the most bike-friendly cities in Wisconsin, the second most bike-friendly state!

Gotta believe there were some adjectives involved. Original comment was probably, "Hey Trek-boy! Get a blinking light!"

The difference, of course, is that my lack of sufficient clothing on a cold day doesn't have the potential to impact you at all. I guess you could argue that your lack of a light is only a risk to you, but I disagree. If I hit you because you don't have enough light, then I'm inconvenienced as well.

That said, I'd be plenty pissed off if someone told me to do anything with my equipment.

Be careful doing martial arts with bike cleats. A friend of mine tried to do a spinning wheel kick to a friend in the morning while prepping for a 200 mile ride. Fell more or less flat on his face.

I think it was just a miscommunication.

He was obviously attempting to ignite a "marijuana cigarette" and needed assistance. They should have stopped and produced said assistance and then commenced to Kum-ba-ya.
