Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice on a purchase - thanks!

Fairly new to cycling, will be doing mainly group or solo rides about 500 miles a month. Test rode a brand new 2006 Giant OCR Composite 2, loved the fit and wanted to get your take on the price, $1,500.

Is this a decent deal, thanks.

I'm not sure. I'm from Australia, exchange rates and prices vary muchly, generally I(Aussies) pay twice as much dollar for dollar than you yanks, I think that sounds a bit high if it is really a 2006.

It's not a bad deal since I think original retail was around $2200. I know someone who has the same bike and is very happy with it. It is well-spec'd with parts that I think are all still current. The brakes are really the only low-end part - that frame requires long reach brakes so there aren't many brake options available. It's designed to be a very comfortable performance bike.

It should be one half of the retail at most.
