Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice needed: Conti Attack/Force Chilis vs. 4000S

I am thinking about switching out my 4000S (which has about 2K miles on them) to the new Attack/Force. The 4000S was great, but it seems like I got my fair share of punctures with them and I slipped on them once on during a turn on a puddle. I know that with the Attack/Force, you can't rotate the tires, but I like the front/rear specifics about the tire set.

Has anyone tried the Attack/Force with the new Black Chilis? PBK has the set for under $60 and I think it is great deal. I primarily do club rides, centuries, and a lot of climbs/descents. The 4 Season was also an option, but I wasn't too crazy about the looks of the sidewalls on them though I do like the puncture protection and wet weather traction on them. If the 4 Season had a pure black sidewall, I'd pick that up in a heartbeat!

Thanks in advance.

why not the new Ultremo Rs.

If I had to choose just between the 4000S and Force/Attack, 4000S.

I've got a set of the new Attack/Force and haven't flatted yet. Granted, I've only had them for ~5 months but I'm not the most careful rider out there so I'll hit my share of potholes, rough roads, etc. Like you, I do mostly club rides, centuries, and tours. They look good and perform very well so I'm happy with them.

BTW, I also ordered a set from PBK recently.

I had a set early this season and I just wasn't comfortable with the Attack on the front I replaced it with a regular 23mm GP4000 and felt much more confident on high speed turns. I kept the Force on the back for a 1000 miles until I ran over something that put a huge slice through it. I replaced that with a GP4000 and have been running those since May.

My 4000S have around 2.2K miles on them, and I haven't flatted once. Then again, I try as much as possible to avoid any sort of debris on the road.

the only problem is that you can't just run out and get another front/back tire if needed. they only come in sets, but the price at PBK is best I've seen. it's a toss up for me.

Okay, I jumped on the Attack/Force combo at PBK. With the 5% off coupon, the whole thing came up to $50.24 shipped. Can't beat that! I guess it wouldn't hurt to try something new. Who knows, maybe I will end up going back to 4000S or trying something else new later when these gets worn out or destroyed.

Good choice -- I have Attack/Force on my roadie and have been very pleased. I don't think you will beat that price either!
