Looking for a set of Zipps

Im looking for a set of clincher Zipp 404 Clydes with a Campy freehub. Ive had my LBS search around here and QBP and Hawley do not have them in stock. Anyone else work at a shop that might have a set sitting around or deal with another distributor and could check and see if they're available?

I dont want HED's or EDGE wheels or Reynolds so save the banter

If anyone has a line on a set, please drop me a PM.

    Thanks!

What do Zipp 404 Clyde Clinchers weigh? 2000 grams? Do they come with a Zipp Forklift so you can get them into your garage?

Why don't you just friggin admit that you're too fat for this sport? That's the first step to True Cycling Zen. Repeat after me: 'I'm a fat fat fatty and I'm too fat for this sport.'. Say it. It's liberating.

1794 grams per set. That's not as heavy as I thought they might be. They're fast wheels. You'll like them.

I did.. however I require Zipps plus I really dont want a clincher with a non aluminum braking surface so that only leaves HED and Zipp and I talked to HED today and their price was more than I wanted to spend.

Cycling isn't a sport. It's more like a really, really expensive eating disorder.

Hawley is showing the front, but not the rear. If you could find Shimano you could just swap the free hub.

Wheelbuilder's price is more than HED's price but Ill still give them a call.

Anyone else? I figure there has to be some west coast distributors that the east coast guys dont deal with.

Why not just get the Campy freehub and a Shimano set of wheels and swap out the part?

The problem is that there are NO 2008 Clyde wheels in any warehouse and the price has gone WAY up on the 2009s. Id be open to getting some 08 Shimano Clydes and switching them if I could find a set.

Zipp is redesigning their Campy freehub body and it wont be available until March at best. They are out of the 2008 Campy freehub body so Id have to find one sitting on a shelf somewhere.

I've got a regular set in the basement 18/24 Clinchers that I don't use.

I'm not sure that the extra spokes in the front are all that. How big are you?

About 235.. I wouldnt want to risk anything with that low of a spoke count.

the 2007-2008 Clydes are 20/24h no? Only the 2009 are 24/24h. Otherwise your looking at a custom build to get to 32h since zipp does not spec rims (or hubs) at more than 24h.

I dont know what the spoke count is. Its not listed on Zipps site and since the 2008 stuff seems to have all but dried up, Im having trouble finding anything on them.

According to the Nytro site spoke count is 20/24 on the 2007 and 2007 models although it looks like at one time there were 24/28 models.
    http://mackcycleandfitness.com/itemd...fm?LibId=42375

    Or better yet from Zipp:
CSC, tubular Cyclocross, Clydesdale, Powertap and track versions of our wheels have no weight limit, ( your bike frame limits should be checked too). The ZED6, ZED8 and ZED10 wheels with the super-stiff laminate option would also have no weight limit, if these are also built using the 24 hole rear spoking option (not the standard 18 spoke rear lacing).
For our other Zipp wheels, we recommend:
    • 185 lbs (85kg) for 202 tubular,
    • 200lbs (90kg) for 303 tubular,
    • 225lbs (102kg) for 404, 808 and 1080 tubular wheels
    • 260 lbs (120kg) for clinchers (except 303 = 220lbs or 100kg)
Roadies >>200 lbs (90kg) and triathletes >>220 lbs (100kg) should consider the Clydesdale version for improved lateral stiffness. (You can buy the wheels without the Clydesdale decals if you so wish).
Larger and more powerful / aggressive riders need more spokes, cross lacing pattern, traditional flanges, shorter spokes and/or deeper rims to get the wheel stiff enough for adequate and safe power transmission.

You know... Reynolds doesn't have a rider weight limit.
Just thought I'd throw it out there contrary to your original post.
