Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

W&OD Bike Ride

Tomorrow is due to be in the high 50's low 60's in VA. I think it is time to re-visit the W&OD bike trail. It has been a couple of years and I am looking forward to it.
I will be off in my new/old 06 Fuji Rubiax SL.
Should anyone see an old, out of shape man riding this sweet racer, say hello as you pass.
Should be a great day.

I didn't think the Roubaix was a race geometry; I always thought it was a more relaxed road design. ?

That being said, why would you ride a "sweet racer" on a bike trail anyway?

Will do.
If you see a burly looking hispanic gentleman on an older red cannondale, and a very pretty brunette with him on a yellow trek. say hello as well.

"Sweet" I will admit is a subjective term. Compared to many of the bikes I have ridden in the recent past, the Fuji is indeed SWEET! I do not race, just ride.

Mine weighed in at 15.5 lbs at assembly at the LBS. It is now a little over 17lbs with computer, water bottle, pedals and utilty bag etc. Still a "Sweet Ride". I enjoy every mile.

How was the ride? I haven't riden the W&OD in 20 years, but my parents still enjoy it and I still hear about it. If you see a 65ish couple on their Gary Fisher Hybrids, say high as you're passing on your racer.

Just want to say thanks

I was out with my son today on his new bike. I ride from rt28 west. We were about 2.5 miles into the ride when my son got a flat. While I have a full tube changing and repair kit with me, I have not had to use it since Jan. Back then, I took my bike to the lbs for repair.

Anyway, I have not had to change a flat myself in nearly 25 years. I stopped riding back in the 80's.

We were at the BBQ restaurant and I was attempting to get the tire off etc. You all know the drill. A rider, with many more mile of experience than I had stopped and offered some hints, tips and insights into getting the job done. I didn't get his name, however with all of the bad that has been said about roadies on the W&OD, I wanted to say thanks to this rider and publicize that there are good and helpful riders out there.

I finished the job, with this gentleman's help, and continued on our ride. We took in about 19 miles on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It was a great afternoon with my son that went a little bit smoother thanks to a helpful rider.

Great story.

For the future, that BBQ restaurant (Partlow's) has a bike shop right next to it!

Thanks! I didn't know that. Had I known, I would have walked less back in Jan. when I got a flat and didn't have my repair kit yet.

I wanted to make sure before publicizing so I thought I'd give it a call. Looks like ph# is disconnected. I'm about 90% certain it's gone now though. I ride that way 1-2 times per week and haven't seen the normal fare outside, etc... Just the BBQ pit that makes me want to quit riding and take up competitive eating.

Yah.. I see you all the time, but you're almost always "in the zone" or "zoned out?" Course, I usually am too.

I see Evo guys all the time, but maybe that's cause they're always going so slow?

Here in a couple weeks, the trail becomes a training paradise. All the fair weather riders disappear ~55°F I really can't wait to put miles in this winter. I'm really looking forward to "just riding around" A LOT.
