Heavy winter jersey fit

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Heavy winter jersey fit

So I bought a Capoforma S3 jersey today since it's getting a lot colder and I'm heading up into the mountains. It's their thickest winter jersey so I'm pretty stoked. I tried it on in the store in medium which is my normal size and couldn't zip the collar all the way up on my neck. I tried on the medium and it felt pretty snug in the neck and lose on in the mid section. I took it home and put it on with my bib shorts and found it to be really long and a bit baggier than normal. Is it normal for winter jackets to be baggier than regular jerseys?

yes, so you can put on thicker under layers.

Ahh makes sense, I mean I guess it doesn't matter it's too long just seems like the cut is kind of funny. It's the right tightness everything is just a bit long.

I agree and have just kept getting stuff as I find I need it. The jersey isn't ridiculous I mean I couldn't see just wearing this by it's self in below 30's or even in the 30's but I think it will be good for really early mornings where I'm at and possibly anytime we climb to altitudes where we get to snow. I basically wanted to be able to wear less of a base layer so that if I get hot I can unzip the jacket and cool down really quick.

A little roomy is OK, but you don't want it so baggy that cold air can leak in and circulate underneath.

No it's like air tight on the wrists, waist, and neck. The reason i didn't get the medium was because the collar was so tight I couldn't really zip it up. It's just sort of long in the arms and the waist so it's a bit baggy in the chest.

What is really tight about this jacket I just noticed last night is that it's basically their regular winter jersey but with a high collar that's all fleece and then the chest and back is a wind breaker.

Sometimes one brand just won't fit your body no matter what size you get. A similar product from a different brand may fit better.

Capo stuff fits me really well which is why I typically get it, I notice with their long sleeve jerseys I have to upsize though otherwise the arms are too tight.

I got bored and took some pictures after my ride, how does this look for fit?

Feels a lot better with the gripper on the waste flipped in to shorten it like in the second picture.

looks ok to me but I sold a Bianchi (Nalini) jacket that fit like that in the torso - it just felt too loose and wrinkly to me....but in my case the sleeves and torso were longer - so the whole thing was just too big on me.

Maybe I'll try on the medium again and see if it fits better, I just remember the collar wouldn't zip up all the way. Those pictures were taken with no liner under it fwiw.

doesn't matter. still too big, or perhaps it's just a matter of a badly cut garment?

Hmmm could be, usually this model of kit fits me perfectly but I guess this one is a bit too long. I bought it on discount so the store usually won't let me return things they've discounted best chance would be a exchange for a medium. Oh well guess I'll have to deal with it, I mean it feels ok it's more just an aesthetic thing I guess.

I guess the moral of the story is try jerseys on with bib shorts before you buy, and don't assume matching kit will all fit the same.

I think you should put some weight on so the jersey fits more snuggly.

Too big, and the inseam of your short/bib is too long. Give Descente stuff a try, their torso is sized shorter than most brands I've tried (Castelli, Nike, PI).

Capo shorts are definitely long for the most part i don't really mind it actually, the M1 shorts are a bit longer than normal. Those shorts are the most comfortable shorts I've ever had omg, even more than my more expensive ones.

I have 2 M1 jerseys, an M1 vest, and the M1 shorts and some other capo gear so I'm pretty set for gear but next kit I buy will most likely be something new. I'm going to see if they'll take it back but I doubt it and the medium is too tight.

I have that jacket but in black and love it, so far it's done the trick in the cold weather when wearing the right layers. I wear a base layer, a winter jersey and the S3 to keep warm even in below 30F weather. I like Capoforma's gear as it fits well and is comfortable, though I'm still interested in giving Assos a try so a little splurging for a new summer bib might be in order.

I agree with the others that think it is too big. It should not flap around on a descent. If you bought it locally, I would bring your normal base layer with you when you go back.

If the bibs are comfortable, I wouldn't worry about the inseam length.

I don't think it's so big that it will be flapping around but it will definitely have a bit of extra material in the stomach area when I'm riding leaned over. I'm going to go try the medium again tomorrow but i know it won't zip up all the way and is pretty tight. I think botto is right this just isn't cut perfectly for my body but I'd rather have it a bit baggy than too tight.
