Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bike VERSUS Bike Thread

Okay roadies, it's time to play the game: Which bike is a better deal????

A 2000 Specialized Allez Comp OR An '01-'03 Kestrel 200sci OR An '08 Kestrel Talon

I found this today on CL: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/bik/973653886.html

The Kestrels are on various other sites (for the sake of me not losing the deal I'm not posting them)

I'm looking at getting something better designed for racing than my BD bike and that also doesn't jangle my brains around on bumps.

The frames I am looking at range from $500-$800

I can't look at the ad, are you just talking about frames or whole bikes?

sorry, just frames. that would come out to a pretty poor complete bike for that price range.

the other thing i'm considering is a Cervélo Soloist Team from Competitive Cyclist, they're ~$900.

The ad from CL is for a complete 2000 Allez Comp. for $550. I think it's a mix of Tiagra/105 with a setup for upright riding due to the owner having a neck/back problem. Lots of spacers included.
