Perf Ultra bib changes in 09?
Anyone have an idea of what changes Perf might do with the Ultras for next year? I ask because they have the 08 on sale. I have noticed some pad differences over the years. If a good change was coming I'd wait on the Spring sale; if not, then might grab the current model. Any issues with that one?

They'll probably a new 4th world country to make them $2 cheaper and they'll be even crappier as a result.
(Can you tell I didn't care for the last change?)

I have the '08 bibs and I like them for shorter rides (30 miles-ish or less). I get some chafing at the sides of the chamois on longer rides. I got them for $45 as Performance has those sales on occasion. Worth it at that price. Not worth the $75 that they're listed for right now, in my opinion. Have no idea about the '09 Ultras though.

I loved the 04 and 05's. In '06 IIRC they went to that "Euro fit" which wasn't horrible, but not good either. '07 was the same, but with more flaws. '08 seemed like they made the fabric thicker and blew them up like a balloon for us fat Americans.
I used to use them all the time. I stopped buying them sometime in 06 or 07. CyLowe has an 08 pair that seemed better than before. None of the iterations are worth their "normal" price and with Performance not really using sales like it used to that means finding them "on sale" will be harder.
I say if you know the '08' s work for you and they have your size on sale right now for a price you think is a good value then....why ask us.
The beauty of Ultras is that they don't last long enough to worry about. I used to go through 2-4 pairs a season. So buy yours now and know that if the '09s are better you will be ready to buy them around the time they go on sale at the end of next season.

I only have the 07 bib, but multiples of the earlier versions of the shorts alone. Never tried the 08 so that's why I was asking.
I always wait for these to go on sale...never need to pay full price. I'm sure they will have a big Spring sale in a few months on new models anyhow.
