Chest straps compatible between HRM brands?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Chest straps compatible between HRM brands?

I still have the chest strap from my old Sigma PC15 and I'm trying to organize a trade for a Polar B3 something but he is missing the strap. Anyone reason why it wouldn't work?

Try it, but don't plan on it.

I have a polar and a garmin and they don't. The machines at our YMCA don't work with the Garmin and work with the Polar.

I have had good experiences with trading UN-CODED straps. Most straps now are CODED. I have not had any good experinces with swapping CODED straps.

My Reebok battery-replaceable strap works with my polar watch and the gym equipment. It comes up from time to time on Woot.

I wore my old strap into the bike store and then checked to see which HRMs picked me up - pretty much all of them except the ones that also had other computer functions.

My wife has Polar F4. It works with a sigma strap. Both the strap, and her F4 are uncoded. However, both are 5 years old or more, so newer ones could be coded.

I discovered that her F4 would pick up the sigma strap riding the tandem. I'd be busting my ass, and she'd be on the back chatting away. I'd ask her heart rate and she'd say 170. I'd be like wtf? you're sitting up chatting, and I'm dying. Noticed "her" heart rate was always right at mine, within a beat or 2. I took my strap off, and her HR dropped to 125.

Her Polar was reading my HR.
