Critique my build...
Building up a new bike, and instead of getting the Tarmac Pro SL complete, I'm considering building it....
'09 Tarmac Pro SL (White) ~$1600
'09 Rival with Red BB30 Crank (No Rival or Force Crank for BB30) ~$750
'09 Oval Concepts R701 Shallow Drop Handlebar ~$80
'08 S-Works Stem $0 (Already have it)
'08 Ultegra SL Pedals $0 (Already have them)
Williams Sys 30's w. PowerTap PRO+ ~$1400
Conti 4000S tires $0 (Already have them.)
Total comes to $3,830 - Significantly less than the $4500 for the Complete Tarmac Pro SL and it will have powertap.
So tell me - where am I going wrong? What would you change? And why does anyone buy the complete bike?
Another note: I might be able to get the frameset even cheaper w. crash replacement. So this is a high end figure.

How much do you weigh? Williams 30x would be a good alternative if you are over 190.
Sounds like it will be nice. We'll need pics to verify.

I weigh 150, so the 30s should be fine as a training wheel, and from what I've heard, if you have any problems Keith is on top of his game and is glad to help you out - for little to no cost.
I need to alter that estimate as well...Just found Rival Gruppo on PBK for $440 and free shipping - Upgrading to the red crankset takes it up to $550. So take about 200 off that estimate...
Again I am in shock as to why anyone would buy a complete Tarmac Pro SL - I think my build has a lot more value with a very minimal weight penalty. Even SRAM says Rivals shifting is equal to RED.
I think the new black rival will also look choice with the white and black frame...

PS - I'm heavily considering a Williams Powertap Pro+ 30x set when the funds make their way back into my checking account. $1399 seems like a pretty good deal, imho.

And here I thought we were going to get a semi-nude photo of some pathetic cycling wimp.

What bars would you get? Just out of curiosity.
I like the shallow drop as I will be riding this without spacers, and I like the looks/feel of a traditional bend.
Interestingly there is no weight penalty for these alloy bars compared to the S-Works SL carbon bar. Both come in at around 240 grams.

Is 6 one-half-dozen?
From what I can tell, the Rotundos are 6mm shallower and about 30 grams heavier. I'm not a weight weenie, but when all else is equal?
I do have to say I like the white on black styling of the bar and could be a very nice complement...
Thanks for the suggestion....

There's just something about the way the Rotundos feel. I don't own a set but my buddy has them and I like them better than any of my own bars, fwiw.

FYI: You need to look at the PBK group builder more closely. They are out of Shifters, so that price doesn't include them.
Also, I don't think you can get the Pro SL with a BB30 bottom bracket unless you get the whole bike.

The Rotundos are just my default answer to most people's bar questions these days. I freakin' love 'em!

This is correct. If you want a BB30 frame, your only choice is the SL2 Module. The Pro and SL2 framesets have standard bottom brackets. Or, rather, they've got a non-removable (according to my LBS) insert that converts BB30 to a standard English BB thread.
