Versus pathetic TDU coverage

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Versus pathetic TDU coverage

I guess this is more of a rant than anything else but versus' coverage of the TDU is embarrassing. 30 min. program: 8 minutes intro, rider interviews, explaining the stage, 4 minutes riders rolling out, 2 minutes showing one breakaway, 2 minutes Lance coverage 2 minutes of the peloton catching up and a 30 second sprint scene, a 2 minute winner interview and wrap up. 9.5 minutes of commercials.

Then a few hours later: 4 hours of ultimate cage fighting, not one minute edited out.

I know that no one cares about cycling, I just hoped the one channel that slightly cares would give me a solid hour at least.

hey at least they show it at all, i figure.

and i think they're going to show the final stage in full.

but you gotta love their combo of cage fighting, rodeos, rocky movies, and guys in spandex on 15 lbs bikes. what a mix.

There was more time spent looking at riders holding those baby kangaroos before the start there there was middle to end of race coverage. Stage 2 yesterday pretty much cut from 1/2 into the race to the end sprint. I guess .001 > 0

I'm willing to bet that if Lance wasn't participating, there wouldn't be any coverage at all. You could always subscribe to www.cycling.tv and watch the full event.

Be nice if they ran it again later. I'm generally nowhere near a TV at 4:00pm.

Truthfully, I need a DVR/Tivo/whatever, being a techno Luddite is my fault I guess.

I do think that they could spare us the cage fighting, or the rodeo re-runs from '02 though.

I used to have to wait a week and then video tape the ABC Tour update. The only other info was the stage and overall listing in the box scores in the back fo the sports page throughout July.

Now you're complaining about actual coverage of the Tour Down Under?

We've come a long way.

I saw an ad on there a couple of days ago which featured several races. It wasn't clear what they were broadcasting from them (live, full highlights, limited highlights) but they should hopefully have something.

I was curious whether or not this service was only live, or if it was like a video vault that let you watch any race at any time (a race that has already happened, obviously)

Be glad you have coverage. I know I am. It's a lot better than nothing.

I think you can watch the final stage live at 10 PM (EST?) on Saturday on versus.com. It doesn't look like they'll actually be broadcasting it on the network, unfortunately.

But we do get a full hour on Sunday of recap, I'm assuming of the final stage.

they aren't even doing encore presentations. if you miss it you miss it. i agree that cage fighting gets way to much air time. i would have thought the hype of ufc,wec would have settled by now.

I think the TDU coverage could be so much better if it was even an hour.

I love MMA('cage fighting') been watching it since UFC 1 when it was once a year thru the time the professional wussies got it taken off my provider and I had to search out a coworker who could get it. Protecting people from a PayPerView event is a concept I never did figure out. It's reached a saturation point even for me.

^I'm with you. I used to train for MMA fighting, Jiu-Jitsu and JKD were my specialties, I never fought though, just trained.

But I very rarely watch MMA anymore. It gets boring after a while.

I have Universal Sports on Comcast. Not sure if it's a standard channel or HD or what. I just happened to notice it one day whilst flicking around.
