Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Caad9 setup

After buying a stock caad9 5, would you change the wheels first or upgrade the other components(shifters, crank, deraileurs, etc)? I was thinking about getting kyrisium elites or something and then after going to college, get a job at a store or join a team to get a discount on dura-ace or sram red.

Unless you're building a bike specifically for racing, carbon tubulars probably aren't your best bet for a wheelset. You can spend far less money on a good set of aluminum clinchers that make more sense for general riding.

I would leave the CAAD9 5 BONE STOCK (minus brake pads, and any saddle/fit swaps such as stem, or post). For racing I would get some carbon tubulars (ones posted look good), and for general riding/training use the stock 105's, or some 4.0's if you absolutely need new wheels.

one question though. Why wouldnt you use carbon tubulars on general rides? Do they break easily if used too much?

They aren't as durable, and can be a hassle when flat. I've left mine on for weeks during the season with no issues, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Only if you MUST have some catchy name on the rim, or insist on clinchers.

You should get these wheelsets... It just came off of a caad9. Trusty seller (sorry a shameless plug)

light, cheap, n durable. What other reason is there. Looks pretty good too. Not sure if i should get a 3.0 or 4.0 yet. 4.0 is 100 grams heavier but probably more durable and aerodynamic.
