Garmin 605/705 Question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin 605/705 Question

I've got a question I can't find the answer to in any of the Garmin documentation. I know how to create a "course" from a route I have already taken and saved but ...

Is it possible to create a "course" using only addresses or map coordinates without having the recorded route already on your computer?

And, if it IS possible, how do you do it?

I guess technically that doesn't answer your question, but if you know map coordinates, you can create a course using bikeroutetoaster, and then save it to the Garmin.

I haven't used mapmyride in a while, but it was really slow and tended to lock up my computer. Plus you had to buy a premium membership to print (and I think to download as well)

I like bikeroutetoaster a lot better.

Very cool. I clicked on your link and it popped up with the exact route I want to download. But will it let me download?

I'll have to try them both out tonight.

Thanks for the help!

I don't have a Premium membership, and I can download .CRS files just fine. I use MapMyRide at work on WinXP, and at home on Ubuntu Linux

For never done routes I use mapmyride and save as a Garmin file. Then drag and drop on the device. If you have done a route previously then you can follow that route again.

You could set up way points at key places and have the GPS guide you to each one. I just used the 705 as a GPS to get to an address location. It is fine if you have minimal familiarity with an area. It beeps 2 times when you need to turn. So you need to know if it intends to send you right or left. In our rental the passenger just looked at the screen as it prompted us for exits, major locations, or turns.
