Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Finally received the Tioga barends this afternoon. Here they are, installed on my FX. Had to move the grips, shifters and brake levers all inwards to accommodate them.

Replacing my aging Garmin 705 with this 800. The 705's mount, which used cable ties, I hated. This one's mount looks to be much better.

The Specialized helmet I bought earlier this month didn't fit me too well on a long ride, so I returned that and got this one...

Rode it the last 2 days and feels great. straps are so much nicer than my Ionos. A few friends have assured me that I don't look like the bomb turtle on Mario so i'm happy. Shield makes you look like a power ranger so I will only use that if i'm goofing around.

In anticipation of our trip up to the top of Mt. Lemmon (7300 feet climb, 61 mile round-trip) I got a new 12-27 cassette, and a 38t chainring on my standard crank. The drop from 39t to 38t may seem small, but this was a long climb for me and I wanted every benefit I could get. I've got a 50/34 compact crank on order now, and I think it will really set me up.

Also replaced the chain at the same time as the new cassette. During that ride on Saturday I just kept thinking the new gears were money well spent.

Pair of PI cycling gloves (fingerless) for $22 on Amazon. I've found the PI gloves to simply last forever, a great value.

Powertap G3 with generic wheelset and Joule GPS. Just won the auction.
$753 plus tax/shipping >:-( I have never been charged sales tax online. At least I got a computer with it.

Now I just need a bike to put them on...
