Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

3 cycling caps from pacesportwear.com. the bills on the old ones were all missing material and pretty beaten up.

Picked up a new stem for the new, old bike.

Swapped out the old Bontrager Select stem for a new Bontrager RXL 110mm 7deg unit that weighs half of what the Select did. The best part was the $25 price.

FSA Expansion Plug for 1-1/4" carbon steerers - Turned out to be just barely too small for my steerer tube ID.

Canyon Expansion Plug for 1-1/4" carbon steerers - Turned out to be WAY too tight for my steerer tube ID.

Canyon/Acros 1-1/4" flat headset cover to replace the plastic i-Lock headset

Wheels Manufacturing 5mm + 10mm 1-1/4" headset spacers

In the end I wrapped 3 strips of paper around the FSA expander, preloaded the bearings, tightened the stem, removed the expander, and replaced it with the original friction-fit top cap. Not the plug-and-play job I was expecting.

Here is my latest invention.. it's now available on Kickstarter. If we meet our funding goal, we'll be delivering in June or July. Works for both Schrader and Presta valves.

BDop DIY wheelset. I built it yesterday, and only gave it a short test ride today.

It feels exactly like I expected it would. A solid training wheelset, at a fantastic price.
