Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is an amazing saddle. Not claiming it to be THE answer for everyone, but if you are already liking your toupe or romin, I would put money on it that you would sell your current saddles or put them in a parts bin. After I tried, I got 3 other friends in my group to try the power also and I have since then sold their previous saddles for them. Go try one, I swear you will be amazed.

It looks so wide! I want to try it but it's out of stock everywhere.

It was shot with a gopro on wide angle so it may look wider than it is. But, that being said 3 of those are 155mm widths.

It is the specialized power saddle

The cheaper one has more padding and alloy rails. The more expensive one has carbon rails, less padding, lighter.

Correct. There are different levels:

Power Comp- Level 2 padding - Plastic shell - Cr-Molly rails
  • Size 143mm/ Weight 247g
  • Size 155mm/ Weight 253g
  • Size 168mm/ Weight 256g

Power Expert - Level 2 padding - Plastic shell - Ti rails
  • Size 143mm/ Weight 233g
  • Size 155mm/ Weight 235g
  • Size 168mm/ Weight 238g

Power Pro -Level 1 padding -Carbon shell - Ti rails
  • Size 143mm/ Weight 211g
  • Size 155mm/ Weight 214g

Power Sworks - Level 1 padding - Carbon shell - Carbon rails
  • Size 143mm/ Weight 159g
  • Size 155mm/ Weight 161g

The only difference between the Pro and Sworks is carbon rails.

Picked up an Ultegra 6800 crankset today. Now I'm done with the Altamira aside from figuring out a set of bars I can ride both positions on.

I see. Well the Pro is still very expensive, don't think I can justify spending that much for a saddle, especially since I have no issues with my current (stock) one. It is getting so much praise that it made me curious though.

this book is also very good:

highly recommend both!

Thats exactly what I said. My romin evo was fine but I always thought it could be better, curiosity made me want to try both the Toupe and the Power. My bike shop has a 30 day return policy on saddles as long as they are black with ti rails and comes back with original packaging and is in like new condition. Plus, I'm really good friends with many sales reps and a little bit with the owner. I get a team discount even though I'm not on their team, so that always helps bring the cost down a little.

The toupe was pleasantly nice. Better than my Romin evo in some way. I had my romin evo for 2 years and though I didn't chafe badly, I did have some chaffing on occasion. I didnt' Chafe at all with the Toupe, but I noticed my sit bones were MUCH more sore and fatigued days after riding. I was going to stick with the toupe, but my buddy bought a Power saddle and I ended up riding it for a couple miles and it was unlike anything I had ever ridden. I rode a 155 in the Toupe and the Romin evo, but the Power saddle's edges are wider, so I thought I would try a 143 Pro but ended up being too narrow. Tried a 155 pro and it was spot on. I've got that sworks on its way and should have it in this week. If you are curious, find a LBS and get yourself a comp or expert power saddle and take it on a test ride. Either it will be the best thing ever right off the bat or you will be the first person i have come across that hasn't cared for it!

It's a great book. My wife is huge on it, she picked it up from a friend who does ironman triathlon work.

I have some food books to buy!

That said, i recently discovered carrot cake clif bars, and they're not bad. Not nearly as good as what's in these books, I imagine, but the bars actually taste like carrot cake, which is pretty great.

the larabar one is pretty bangin too. infact the only larabar i dont like is the cappuccino. because it somehow reminds me of that nasty cat **** whiskey taste blended with ****ty coffee you get in the morning when youre hungover and drank too much whiskey the night before

I got angry about having to buy a problem solver seat clamp that has rack mounts because my roadbike has the seatstay mounts too close to the caliper. Yes. I got mad about having to spend 13 bucks. On bike stuff.

I'll have to check that one out too. I bought some Honey Stinger bars in mass quantities...big mistake, they were awful. The only halfway decent one was the dark chocolate mocha cherry flavor...which wasn't too bad, but still pretty dry and you have to guzzle half a bottle of water to choke the thing down.

Did yiu try a different width? Like I said above, I tried a 143mm and it hurt me pretty bad. Went to a 155 and it was a completely different saddle.

I tried the 155. Honestly I didnt like the flare up at the back of the saddle, I kept sliding off of it and it was putting a ton of pressure on my hands.

127mm is the measurement from the straight vertical "cruiser style" position (sitting on ischial tuberosities)
78mm appears to be the measurement from the pelvis rotated forward/performance position. (Sitting on isiaopubic rami)

Heres the result of the paper test on the power 155 for me:

the red dots are where the 78mm measurement came from.

Hmmm. If that were happening to me, I'd be trying the nose up a bit. But regardless, too bad it to didn't work out for you.
