Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Visited the Pearl Izumi Outlet store in Silverthorne, CO last week on vacation, picked up a pair of the P.R.O. Thermal Cycling Bib Knickers for $120!

Copied from my post in the Electronics subforum... I'm so excited

Just got my Garmin Edge 500 Neutral Edition! Have been waiting a while for this to become available, and since I recently got a job, now I can afford to get one! Only difference between this and the normal version is that it has black accents whereas the normal version has blue parts. Better matches my Tarmac. Am itching to use it, but it's raining outside, and the HRM/Speed/Cadence sensors don't get here til Friday

If you're referring to me, the unit by itself (without HRM/speed+cadence sensors) was $249.99 @ REI. They've had it online for a few weeks now, but only in stock for the past two weeks. It is cheaper to buy the kit (with HRM/GSC10) online @ PBK for I believe around $280, but I bought the unit from REI and am buying the sensors from Amazon because 1. REI has got great customer service, and they're local... and 2. Amazon has the sensors for 1/2 the MSRP (~30ish bucks each)

No problem! I've thought about getting the Edge 500 actually as a first step towards getting into racing as well (no $$ for a powertap... YET!)... gradually working to it

Yea, hopefully I'll be picking up both a used pt wheel and a 500 sometime soon.

That's one of the things I like about Trek/Bontrager (other than their beautiful Madones with hidden cabling... you hearing me Specialized?!?!?!) ... their computers have got pretty elegant screen setups with multiple fields, whereas the Specialized ones don't really do that.

Bought a Garmin Edge 500 at a charity silent auction on Friday night at the ATOC team presentation gala. It was interesting that there were lots of signed team jerseys and cycling related art, but the Garmin was the only item actually useful for a rider. (Well, there was a Felt cruiser bike donated by Jim Felt, but I didn't bid on that).

Oh, and I bought some tubes and Kenda Kontender tires from the Kenda trailer at the ATOC on Sunday.

Of course! And it came with a cadence sensor and a upgraded heart rate strap. But the best part is that since it's a ANT+ receiver, all I need is a wireless powertap hub and I'm golden!

Two new tires..

The bike isn't mine but it had the same tire. I'm waiting for them to arrive tommorow. They are 700x23 cst czar tires black/red 120psi..
Nothing special really. I wanted the folding version but they were out so i opted for the wire bead since i need tires and they're cheaper anyway.
