Are the flat sides stable (i.e. non-slippery)? I've been thinking about buying PD-A530 as well. I want to go clipless come next spring, so I could wait until then. However, my current platform pedals are slippery when I ride in the rain, even against my Shimano cycle shoes. I want to buy platform pedals that grip well in the rain but don't want to spend money on them and end up switching to SPD pedals in a few months. If the PD-A530 has solid flat sides, then I can just buy them now - two birds with one stone.
I slip on platform with studs on my MTBs, that's why I have battle scars front to back. These don't have studs so it might be more of a bruise.

I have the top (in grey). Works very well. I didn't know they had the bottom, though. You gonna wear it underneath a pair of regular bike pants? I'd love to know how that works!
Right about the size... I bought small since it was the smallest size available. It's still a bit lose on me, but not too bad.

A530 don't grip too well - if you tend to slip on ordinary platforms, you will slip on these too. For proper grip you need studs. Wellgo R120B are the only pedals I know of that offer a studded platform on one side and SPD clipless on the other:
Quite cheap too, don't know anything about the quality though.

I use lined tights when it's below 50, but I always wear them OVER bike shorts. The chamois in bike shorts should always be against skin. I would use that Merino base layer over bike shorts, also. I could actually use something that's in between lined tights and bare legs.

Cycling shoes are not the best choice for riding platforms; you want something with a soft, grippy sole.
A530 don't grip too well - if you tend to slip on ordinary platforms, you will slip on these too. For proper grip you need studs. Wellgo R120B are the only pedals I know of that offer a studded platform on one side and SPD clipless on the other...

One last question. Do you think those studs make the pedals less slippery even with cycling shoes?

Ultegra cassette and KMC chain came in today, but I had ordered the full nickel-plated X10L chain, and they sent me the half-plated X10.93 (half the cost) chain. So now I have to wait for them to send me the right one.

Woot Woot!! After a frantic night of posting in classifieds, emailing, bugging members on BFN (sorry guys Lol), I was able to sell my new black pro team jacket and able to pick up this VERY limited edition chartreuse pro team jacket. Always wanted the chartreuse but have only seen one in the last 6 months on eBay. When I saw it, my wheels started going into overdrive on how to get this. Luckily it worked out for me this time!

Last night I picked up a cold weather face mask to go over my nose and mouth (and ears). I'm hoping this will extend my season since my lungs really don't like it when I ride in anything below 50f. I'll try it out this weekend...

The mask restricts your breathing a bit, I usually only pull the balaclava over my mouth. I inhale through my nose exhale out the mouth to help regulate my breathing.
The mask comes out when the temps get closer to 0°c.

Now Amazon is saying the availability of the chain I ordered through them is 1-2 MONTHS! The other suppliers on Amazon all say 3-4 days.

Off topic, but Amazon doesn't send me any text for order updates! I registered the correct cellphone number. Waiting anxiously for the mini pump...

Well there are lots of companies that sell through Amazon. If you look at items it will say "shipped and sold by" Amazon LLC or maybe another company. Through Amazon it says 1-2 months. Through Green Mountain Outfitters or Niagara Cycles it says 2-4 days.
I try to buy most stuff through Amazon direct so that it will all come at the same time and I can usually get free shipping. But sometimes certain items are only available as shipped through another supplier and so it comes as a separate shipment.
I ordered this stuff last Monday, and the crank arm removal tool came from Niagara and got to me in 2 days. The rest of the stuff just got to me today.

It's one of those items that I'm not sure will get a lot of use. I will have to see how much I like it. I'll likely purchase a more expensive one if I find it to be something I get a lot of use out of.

If its functional, then its worth it.
I'm guilty of over spending on anything cycling, its something I love. If it makes me more comfortable while riding, I'll dish out the dough for it.

I still want to get one of these merino wool Buff contraptions. They look super-versatile for head/face protection.
