Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stem bag is ugly!

And pumping tires to max PSI is noobish!

Spring Cleaning!

The super rare WD40. Cleaned the derailleurs and chain with that.

Walgreen's branded NICE! wipes. Used that to wipe down the bike. Cleaned the rims and brake rim part. Wiped off the WD40 with it too.

No name brand paper towels to wipe down the bike.

Replaced brake pads with the Dura 2 Next generation of a all weather, high performance Kool Stop.

Re-lubed with the very expensive $4 Tri-Force superior lubricant made of unobtanium.

And regreased what needed with Park Tool's grease.

Well today I received an 11-32 ultegra 6800 cassette to put on my alloy training/gravel wheels. Going to pair it by changing the cage assembly of my Dura Ace 9070 derailleur to a 6800gs cage which I should have tomorrow. Sacriledge I feel but going to try nevertheless after my weekend races. I plan to take pics and a vid of the project since in my research I hear about people doing it (Leonard Zinn) but can't seem to find any documentation or instructions

First cycling clothing: Nashbar sport baggy shorts so I don't look like a cyclist, but have the benefit of compression shorts.

Nashbar's Orange pump arrived also. Gauge is much improved over the XLC pump I had, gauge is more responsive and can easier get to the PSI I want, 95 front, 105 rear.

Remind anyone who doesn't like it that Bradley Wiggins won the 2012 TdF with a modified Di2 RD and 11-32 cassette.

A lot of pros use 11-32. Seems the best climbers and general category favorites are not embarrassed to use 11-28 or 11-32. It's only in the 41 it would be looked down upon

That makes two of us. From your location I'm not sure if you've ever ridden Lost River Park (near Mathias)? But between that, a 4 mile gravel road with lots of switchbacks (avg grade 10-18%), and then the Alpine Loop Grand Fondo I'm finding that I may have the muscles but not the cadence or heart rate to handle without stopping to rest for a couple of minutes. I'm really hoping that this will help with that. Overall I find the 28 to be enough for most of my riding. The other part is now I'm using a coach who has me doing a fair bit of recovery riding, the terrain where I live is practically impossible to do that on with current gearing.

Thanks for the link, I'll do that! I'm my own worst enemy, I love to ride and enjoy riding the equipment I desire but my inner ego/shallowness has me cringing at what I think a mid-cage is going to look like on my bike
