Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I see everybody is doing a very good job filling the bike industry's pockets.

Not me. Nope. I haven't spent a dime since.......yesterday.

Actually, I can't find a pic of exactly what I have but I remember it was a long time ago I bought this massive 3-pack bundle of wet wipes (citrus-scented stuff) and after riding thru the rain on Sunday I gave the bike a good hosing down, easy dried, then figured I'd clean later.

Rather than go thru a spray & paper-towel routine, I used the wipes & a clean cloth behind to keep any streaks down and ya know what??........Worked GREAT!!!

Highly recommended vs spraying half of what you want on the bike into the air.........

11sp Shimano 105 5800. Ribble's price of $440 shipped was too tempting.

A couple of Mavic jerseys, marked down to absurd prices, and waiting for the arrival of a pair of Giordana Sport bibs. New 9-speed cassette (12-27) for just a little bit more bailout than I had before.

Nice. I was going to be jealous since I bought my 5700 group about a month before they announced the 5800, but I paid a bit less and I can live without that extra gear. I like the black BB though...

It's less about the extra gear than it is the improvement in shifting smoothness and ease. The front shifting is drastically improved, at least when I compare my 5700 vs 6800.

My 5700 FD shifts smooth. Not sure how it could be improved upon...

Have you tried 6800 or 9000? If not, go give it a try.

Very nice Dunbar! Looking forward to your report and comparison to 5700. By the way, my rear derailleur cable frayed/broke at the shifter and I changed all housings/cables to Jagwire Road Pro. Feels like a different bike although front still needs considerable effort. (5700) I remember you had issues with DA wires fraying on you.

Yes, I'm hoping Shimano has made running changes to make the 5800 polymer coated cables more durable. If not, I'll just end up replacing the RD cable/housing every 6 months myself to keep the cost down.

Picked up a new Schwable One for $17.99 damaged box only they only had one but it was a price I could not let go by.
Using Schwable One's and Schwable S tires really like them.

Not a physical purchase but I had a GURU TT bike pro-fit today for the new winter TT bike build...thinking a K-Zero if the fit math works out

Not sure about the broken stuff but I love my Speedplays, and I love the fact they have the built in grease port no disassembling the pedal to relube and a bunch of other features I like about Speedplays.
