Newbie shoe/pedal question, no luck in search

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Newbie shoe/pedal question, no luck in search

Hey guys, I've had my Trek 1.2 since October and last month finally got some shoes, with intentions of getting the kind of pedals that clip onto the shoe bottom... Right now I am wearing bontrager race mtb (mtb was suggested by a friend for the sake of walking in them) I was wondering if anyone might have a suggestion on a pedal/clip I could use with this bike/shoe combination. Thanks- Pat

Any pedal which takes a two bolt cleat. Also known as "SPD type". The types I'm familair with are actual SPD pedals (shimano and other brands which are 100% compatable with the SPD cleat), Crank Brothers - Candy, Smartie, Egg Beater and others - also two hole cleats, similar but not compatable with actual SPD cleats. There's a couple of others I can't think of right now. Just go to a shop you feel is your favorite and buy some that are in the price range you can afford. People have their favorites, but there's no night and day difference.

I happen to have SPD compatable pedals - some Shimano, some Wellgo, some others. I've never noticed the difference in function between the more expensive and cheaper ones, but others may disagree. If I had it to do over, I'd probably go the Crank Bros. route, but now I have about 5 SPD pedals on 4 bikes (one's a tandem!) so I'm staying with that system.

SPD's or Egg beaters will work.
