Cut cadence cable off a computer?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cut cadence cable off a computer?

I have an old computer sitting around my garage I'd like to put on a tandem I've been piloting for and don't want to deal with the cable for the cadence sensor. Do you think I could cut that cable and wrap the stub in electrical tape?

yeah, just rip it off. There's no electrical current running through that thing when unused.

the computer picks up the reading from small electricity blips created when the magnet flies by the 'sensor'

You were able to formulate and type a complete sentence. So, yes, I think you are probably capable of using scissors and electrical tape.

That's what I figured, but wanted to be sure. Thanks!

It's shocking that such members exist, isn't it?

LOL. I've met someone with an university education who didn't have ability to operate a screw driver.

Just remember to disconnect the power before cutting the cable. Safety first

Some of the honors/calculus students I knew in college couldn't do their own tax returns.

Sure, take all the fun out of it.

Why not just wrap it up somewhere? It's not much weight. Also, why don't you want cadence? I find it more useful than speed. That said, you can cut it off. Rather than electrical tape which will just fall off eventually I'd stick a glob of rtv or something over it after trimming it as close as possible to the base.

I just don't need it anymore. As a musician, I can tell about what my cadence is without a device. I also don't know how hard it would be to mount on a tandem since there won't be any chainstays. I might just bunch it up and zip tie it somewhere.
