help with a new bike

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

help with a new bike

I am having some trouble picking a new bike. I am 23 years old 6 foot 4 195 lbs. I am trying to spend aroud $2000. I have been looking at the trek madone 4.5 compact and the specialized roubaix elite compact. What other bikes should I look at?

At your height the proper fit will be hard to come by... but both Trek and Specialized have a good run of sizes so hopefully those would work. They're both great options. Visit your local shops and see what catches your eye. For $2k, you'll have quite a few options.

One thing though... the Madone is more like the Tarmac for Specialized, so they're not really the same bike at all.

$2K on the bike or a $2K total budget? You'll need to get some good shoes, clothes, pedals, helmet, computer, etc which will leave you with $1.5K for the bike.
