Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Internal Cable Routing Troubles

Just acquired a Felt CA1 frame set but my issue is that I cannot seem to route the rear brake cable through. There is no string or anything to pull the new cable through. I tried removing the seat post to stick my finger in but the hole inside is so small I can't even get my pinky in to guide it.

Any advice?

Get a Cervelo S2, there's no problem with the internal cable routing on those frames.

Here's how Sinclair Imports recommends running the internal cables on the 2009 Ridley Noah. Seems like you'll get some sort of help from this video.

my kestrel has an internal brake cable and I had a klein. the kestrel brake cable housing came out once and I was able to get it back in by bending the housing slightly, feed it in on one side. on the other side, I feed a spoke in to find the housing and guide the housing through. good luck.

hmm.. with cervelo you can pop out the plastic insert and you end up with a nice sized hole you can fish through...

I thought it would be a problem on the Felt frame I just got, until I popped out the plastic insert at the end. Then I just used a small screwdriver to fish out the cable. Took no time.

I found it easier for me to have the frame stood on end.

Then just poked it thru after a few stabs.

As an owner of a Klein my advice is - don't remove the old cable until you get the new one in. I have some very thin tubing I got from the LBS which I slide over the cable and through the frame until it comes out the other end. Then I pull the old cable out, and slide the new through the tubing. Then pull the tubing out. Won't help you now, but maybe in the future.

Best advice for Felt frames. I did not know that the plastic insert was removable until I popped it out myself. It made the routing much easier.
