Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My work in Progress.....Coming in a little heavier than I thought

STEEL IS REAL

I suppose I can save the most weight at the wheels, but the Open Pros are such great rims......
I can shave 100 grams at the pedals, is 3 oz. worth $150?
I can shave 50 grams at the seat, but then I sacrifice comfort.
Carbon seatpost, 50 gram savings? The Thomson is so pretty.
Carbon bars? These weigh in at 225 grams, how much can I save?

Help me, I have become a weight wienie!!!!!

My FD is on back order. Once that comes in, I can complete the build.
What do you guys think, Yellow tires? Red Bar Tape?

There are much lighter versions of the Arione that don't sacrifice any comfort. Just sayin'

You are on the right track. Sans cables, chain, and handlebar wrap will definitely make it lighter.

Carbon bars will maybe save you 20 grams, that's less than an ounce.

I wouldn't change a thing, but if you must, wheels are about the only place you'll see significant weight savings (double points since it's rotating mass). Wait for a smoking deal via a group buy/bonktown/Craig's List. You might shave 0.5 - 1.0 lb that way. Don't bother with anything else until you're a Cat 3.

This is number 2 from John

Frame/headset weighed in at an even 4.0 pounds

Maybe I will get black tires. GP4000?

I just thought yellow would look better hanging in my office.

. . . . but then again you might be a tad biased.

But it's a great rivalry, USC dominates the football world and UCLA dominates the basketball world. The rest of the sports you split between you.

That is a sweet bike.... Do you really think a pound or even two is going to be that big of a difference over a 60 or 100 mile ride? I tend to think no, but then again I ride a Rivendell...

Don't spend too much money on it. "Once a Bruin, always a Bruin, but you can only use a Trojan once".

you should trade that silver seat post for a black one to match the stem and bars.

I actually thought that script read "fugly".

I'll see you KU's National Championship, # of Final Fours over the past decade, and win percentage over the past five years.

'nuff said.
