Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

+1

His TT ride at ToC was the highlight of the race week for me.

I do know he lives pretty high up on a mountain and a lot of those homes are pretty far off the road with lots of tree coverage. No reason to assume no one gave a hoot.

Edit: I just read that the neighbers did see the lights on one evening but no one called the police.

Of course, it could be used to set up a honeypot like situation

tweet: I'm totally out of town visiting instanbul (possibly constantinople)

tweet: Seriously, I'm going to be gone for about two weeks. I should've set the house alarm. Whoops!

Because both of Dave Z's cars, and the 12 bikes that were stolen would've all fit in a safe deposit box.

This had to be a targeted attack. I'm hoping the authorities contact eBay and keep an eye out for certain bikes being listed.

More to the Story - What is up with this?

Zabriskie's home burglarized
By VeloNews.com
Posted Feb. 24, 2009

While the Web-based cycling community was all a-Twitter over the recent theft and return of Lance Armstrong's time trial bike, another cyclist has suffered a bigger loss of personal property, but did not discover it until he returned from the recent Amgen Tour of California.

Salt Lake City Police have issued an appeal for the public's help in recovering items stolen in a burglary at the home of Garmin-Slipstream’s David Zabriskie.

According to police, the break-in occurred while Zabriskie was in California for the recent Amgen Tour.

Police also issued a partial list of items stolen and asked for help in their recovery, particularly if any turn up in local pawnshops or on eBay.

Among those items stolen from Zabriskie’s home are:
• Black 2008 Subaru Outback, Utah plate A189NC
• Black 2006 Toyota Scion, Utah plate 094VWM
• Giro D Italia Race Medal (approx. 6" circumference)
• Olympic Seiko watch
• Beijing Olympic ring (silver) with initials "DZ" engraved ($4,000)
• Olympic Time Trial Bike, plus 12 other bikes (combined value of $100,000)
• Cervelo (black/red) bike frame - team issued ($5000)
• Tag Heuer watch ($6,000)
• Bose Speaker/Receiver System ($15,000)
• Sony 52" flat screen TV ($4,000)
• Two Mac Books and one Mac desktop, plus hard drive ($8,000)
• A pair of Space legs, a recovery compression system for legs ($5,000)
• 7 Marvel sideshow statues ($11,000)

According to police, the Marvel sideshow statues are distinctive in that they stand two- to three feet tall and are very heavy. The stolen statues were of: "Hellboy" pistol figurine, "Ash"Army of Darkness, "Tomb Raider" Lara Croft, "The Punisher," "Alien," "Ironman" Limited Edition, and a "Gears of War" character.

Anyone with any information on this burglary or the location of the items is asked to call the Tips for Cash line at 799-INFO (4636). Please reference case #09-32767.

Definitely could be hate to say it but to speak the truth not all that exciting, but this one they went all out about wiped his house clean, I don't know it is a very odd thing, that seems excessive all at this Amgen Tour of California, some sort of vendetta perhaps?

More than likely it was professionals who knew who he is and where he was. They scoped the job out ahead of time.

Gotta ask knatchwa, why are you advertising having HPV w/ your avatar?

I've watched that discovery show To Catch a Thief.. It's pretty easy it seems to rob someone's house and be done with it in 20 minutes. Everyone just minds their own business or assumes if something fishy is happening someone else will report it. I think the guy that did the show only got caught robbing a police station which was pretty funny.

Who knows but...

I once had a house burglarized where they must have brought a truck in. Basically took everything; clothes, bikes, guns, washer/dryer, etc. Came home at the end of the day from work to a house in shambles.

Police said definitely pros. They tend to watch for several days to see what your schedule is then strike if opportunity is good. Sophisticated pros are not your typical crack head needing immediate cash for a score.

The majority of that stuff is basically impossible to sell. WTF are you gonna do with a Giro de Italia medal? You don't think someone would figure that out?

Or a Beijing Olympic ring that has DZ engraved? Not many of those around...

A $5000 recovery system for cyclist's legs?

Olympic TT bike? One of a kind probably..

Who on Earth are they planning on selling this stuff to?
