Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just bought an S2!

Well, not really, but I've lost about 4 lbs since i started dieting for race season last Friday... that's about the same amount of weight savings as upgrading to an S2 w/Ultegra from my current bike.

On another note is anyone else cutting their weight by 5-10 lbs for race season right now... this sucks so bad. Come around 10 PM is the worst. Anyone have any good tricks other than HTFU (Which is getting old)?

just don't have crap food in the home to eat.

I ate ~1.5 lbs of jujubes in about a day and a half just because they were there (study snacks).

have healthy snacks around. If you have a craving, satisfy it or it will get worse until you binge.

I started dieting a little bit. It's hard for me to lose weight though. I'm 5'9". I was 155 around Christmas and now I'm consistently weighing in at 150. I'm trying to lose 5 more before mid March. I just rode my bike a lot and ate healthier. Also no eating after 8 for me. If I do eat something, it's usually an apple or carrots.

Hey Nick be careful with the dieting. That's a lot of weight to lose in little time. Eat normally and maybe a bit more since you're training. The weight will come off with time.

Four pounds in less than a week? Wait until you get old. I'm down eight pounds since December and happy about it. Yes it's hard, but overdoing it leads to binging later. The occasional snack will slow down the weight loss, but make it easier to keep it off.

That's tough when you don't live alone and you have in-laws for whom food==love. I can't tell you the amount of junk food I've just had to throw away.

I have lost 13 pounds since November; down from 158 to 145 and I am 5'6". I would like to lose about 10 more. I train more and the weight has come off. I only cut out fast food. I suspect I will lose the weight faster as my training ramps up during race season.

Check to see in a week from now whether those pounds are gone for good (or if more have been been burned off). If so, congratulations! What's your diet like?

I agree. I've been able to sustain my weight at 158 pounds for most of the winter (since winter ends in March), which is only three or so pounds above my summer weight (which is always lower; I hit 152 this summer). Having a (mostly) healthy and moderated diet helped a lot with this, as well as portion control on the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners (though I can't eat as much anymore anyway). I rode a lot before mid-December, but cut back due to emotional issues I was facing.

I think it's not the time when food is consumed, but what food is consumed at the time...

Honestly I used to weigh about 210 and lost 60 based on diet 2 years ago. When I was running and rock climbing I was down to 150-155 these days I'm at 165. Last week I weighed in at about 168. I'm near my proper weight so losing weight is a bit more difficult. At this point I'm weighing in at 164-165 from day to day, I'd like to get that at 156-158 if possible, not sure if it's healthy though.

Junk food isn't much of a problem for me, junk food for me is like granola.
