Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best Bike Store in Los Angeles?

I'm traveling to Los Angeles - Fullerton & City of Industry. I have a half day to burn and I'd like to check out a couple of the best road bike shops in the area. Can you recommend the most interesting store(s) in the area?

Even though I grew up in that neighborhood, don't know the LBS out there now. Fullerton area and vicinity is a pretty nice area to ride, though, so I would guess that there are probably some good shops out there. You might want to post this over in the SoCal forum for a better answer.

if you get up to Venice/Santa Monica, check out VeloWorx. Helen's and Cynergy are worth stops too.

Yeah, if you're around Fullerton banning's will be the place to check out. If you're interested in track stuff at all, Bill Ron might also be interesting- very much a boutique shop.

For an experience you can't get anywhere else, see if you can arrange for a "first ride" on the ADT velodrome. It's by appointment and depends on what else may be going on, but it will be more memorable than any shop you can visit...

I'll second Helens.

I live near the City of Industry now, and haven't found a decent bike shop within a 30 minute drive yet.

Fullerton has some cool shops, but nothing real special. I think you'd be better off just spending your half day either riding or sightseeing.

Or - drive down to Laguna Cyclery for a bit of both.

IF you can get to Pasadena, which is not too much further, hit the Open Road Cyclery. Fullerton is pretty cool by itself. If you have a bike with you, ride the Canyon.

You should warn people of the interesting personality to be witnessed at that shop if you're going to suggest it

I really don't be leave their is one good shop but a collection of several each with different things.
So taking into consideration you only have half a day my suggestion is to head over to Fountain Valley and hit up 4 in the area at once in the same area. Bicycle Discovery & Performance Bicycle are next to each other.
In this order
Bicycle Discovery
8800 Warner Ave, Fountain Valley, CA (714) 841-1366

and

Performance Bicycle Shop
8900 Warner Ave, Fountain Valley, CA (714) 842-3480

Then head over to
Surf City Cyclery (SPECIALIZED BICYCLE SUPERSTORE )
7470 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92647 (714) 842-171

If you have time not to far away is
Jax Bicycle Center 401 Main St, Huntington Beach, CA 92648 (714) 969-8684

This will give you 4 nice shops to visit all in the same area and end up at the beach at Jax for some eats and nice view, this is my suggestion so you can see the most with the limited time you have, 4 good shops all in one afternoon not far from were you will start from.
