Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Mavic Wheel comparison

I need another set of wheels and I was thinking of Mavic's employee purchase program. I currently have a set of 2007 Kysrium SSC SL, pre black and red spokes. I want something else about that good and was just noticing the 2009 Kysrium Elites. Those now weight about the same as the older SL's, but you get steel spokes. I was just wondering how they would compare and what the actual weight of the new Elites may be. The only other manufactures that I KNOW of that offer an employee purchase program would be Trek, Easton, and Ritchey, Easton being the best % off, but also taking the longest to deliver. So you can make some suggestions if you don't like Mavic.

I have both and the only difference I notice is the SL's are stiffer. I attribute it to the steel vs. alloy spokes. After 60 or 70 miles on the SL's, I start to feel it in my back. I also think the stiffness translates into a little better response cornering.

Both are great. Hope this helps.

Allegedly the new (2009) Elites weigh 1550g per set. (Down from ~1700g for the previous year's Elite.)
