Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanks guys for help with my First road bike.

Thanks all to the direct advice given to my threads here and the advice I gleamed from others threads. I picked up my first road bike today. I ended up with a brand new Trek 2100 (2007 model). I had a bit of good fortune as I accidentally ended up at a LBS one day before they were holding big tent sale of a bunch NOS bikes they had bought en mass. After a little negotiating I got this bike for $1000can (or around $780USD). It did not have it pedals but I have some Shimano 105’s that will make it way over. I was able to take it for about a 1hr test ride and it felt good and fit well. I also had a hard look at a Trek 5000 for $100 more, bit the bike they had in stock didn’t fit well, so I gave it a pass

So thoughts did I do alright? My plan was to find used bike, but from what I have seen around here I would have trouble doing too much better then this.

Wow $780 for a Trek with 105/Ultegra that fits you well?! It sounds like you scored.

Congratulations. Sounds like a good bargain. You're probably already familiar with your keyboard though, so familiarize yourself with the bike and get out there log some miles.
