Cheap Pearl Izumi Kit - Is this for real?

A seller is advertising new Pearl Izumi kits for $42.99 with free shipping to US. Has anyone bought one of these? Real or fake?

PI makes cheap stuff too. They make $100 jerseys and they make the $20 cheapies. I'm guessing these are more toward the cheapie end of that spectrum.

PI's not like Assos, where absolutely everything they make is expensive.

Even at the PI outlet near me, you can't get a jersey + shorts for $40. The closest you would come would be in plain solid color too. It's location in China would also make me think it's probably fake.

    You do the math.

It's either REAL fake, or REAL cheap. That said, it may still be worthwhile.

Fake what? As in not a jersey and pants? Or not really Pearl Izumi? Why would China make you think it's not real? Where do you think this stuff is made?

It's the North Koreans. How do you think Kim Jong funds his nuclear program?

Even if it was real, I wouldn't want to wear something that looked like that.

    Shanghai, Shanghai, China

must be stuff that fell off the back of a truck.
We all know by now that official PI stuff is made in china, so it's probably from the same factory.

Even if it is from the same factory, it is not necessarily the same quality as the stuff sold in the USA. It is very common for the same factory to make cheap knock-offs or name brand products using inferior materials.

this is the danger of moving production to China. PI taught them how to make the items, now they don't need PI.

I like how they bothered to put the sizing chart up. I didnt see an "all" size in there
    Sometimes, I have to wonder.

China's the knock-off capital of the world. If Pearl Izumi has a plant there, you can bet your next paycheck that there are also plants that make Perl Izumi, Pearl Izimi, and so on and so forth.

And those are just the ones who have the decency to come up with their "own" brand name. I'd be somewhat surprised if these super cheapo ones are real Pearl's, even if they have the same labeling.

correct me if im wrong, but almost nobody owns their own dedicated plant in china. Companies simply turn to the low bidder, so the factory is simply on a contract with PI. It wouldn't be that hard for them to also make stuff that wasnt contracted and sell it cheap on ebay.

Some manufacturing companies do own their own factories in mainland China, but probably not many clothing companies. Many companies send their own employees to work on-site at the Chinese factories to monitor product quality and working conditions.

I vote for the ones who say it's being made "after hours" in the same plant.

A friend of mine's company has products made in China. Turns out their manufacture has been selling his company's products (ie knock offs) to stores in Canada. Not only infringing on copyright, patents, etc but also undercutting them on prices.

From friends who travel routinely to China for business, this a very common thing, and not considered wrong - just innovative.

I wonder if the "Thermal fabric, fleeced inside to keep you warm" applies to the shorts or the jersey?

I think the "fleeced" part would apply to the buyers.
