So after a stupid amount of overtime, I decided to do the adult thing and put the extra income towards something responsible and neccessary (read: frivolous). If I recall correctly, I took delivery on this bike in September of last year and had only a few weeks to ride it before school ramped up again and the weather called for the all-seasons bike. I sold, traded, and replaced a bunch of the stock parts over the winter and finally feel as though the build is complete.

I haven't ridden the bike as pictured, but the ride out of the box was fantastic - the extra stiffness is a welcome change from my other bike as I'm 6'1 and 170 lbs. When all was said and done, the bike weighs in at 15.8 lbs with the Edge 705 and cadence sensor. Not too bad, considering it’s a 58.

Zero Gravity brakes (I'm on the fence with these. I received the brakes in a Craigslist trade and haven't tried them yet. The front brake doesn't have adequate clearance with the front rim unless the caliper arms are in the open position, so if the performance sucks I'll put the Campy brakes back on.)

I did read a rather mixed review of a Canyon bike like that one in some magazine. They thought it was twitchy.

15.80 lbs, with the Edge 705 + Cadence mounted. Not a porker, but not really a WW bike either.

As far as the ride, the bike tracks along just fine. I was a bit nervous about the front end being too stiff (the fork is 1.5"-1.25"), but there isn't a major comfort/tracking difference from this bike to the Moots. The wheelbase is actually a little longer than the Vamoots, if you can believe it. My other bike is an Ultegra build (I only purchased the Chorus build because it was the best bang for the buck), so the Campy hoods take a bit of getting used to. I feel a bit more stretched out on the tops.


I emailed Canyon directly and was able to set it up through them in a relatively painless fashion. I've heard mixed reviews about their service and am glad to report that things went smoothly for me (although I did order the bike near the close of their sales season, when things were likely pretty calm).

Sub 16 isn't too heavy. Clinchers or tubulars?

I didn't think so either. I was hoping to hit 16 or below, so I am happy with it's weight (especially at a size 58).

Anyway, I'm running clinchers. These are the 2005 or 2006 version of Reynold's MV32C, and if memory serves they're just a hair under 1500g.

My Cervelo S2 is 16 lb 5oz with the clinchers. Zero G brakes would bring it down to right around 16 lbs, I could also put lighter wheels on it (the Williams weigh 1600 grams, I could save 150 grams with lighter hoops). Tubular race wheels brings my bike (or would bring yours) down to around 15lbs. Light enough for me, that's for sure.

I hear you. At 170 it wouldn't make sense to be breaking any WW barriers. My Moots, which I am totally happy with, is 17.5 and the limiting factor going over those hills is still the engine. As I said, I'm still on the fence with the 0G. I need to test them out before I go screaming down some of the descents here. I will ditch them and have no problem going back over 16 lbs with the Chorus brakes if they give me any crap.


By the way, I'm glad to see you got your cable routing straightened out. The Cervelo looks 100x cleaner.

Thanks Kendall. Regarding the price, it's hard to say. The stock build (w/ FSA bits and Ksyrium Elites) was 2200 Euro after the "sponsoring" discount they give to those who can provide a race license.

I sold/traded a lot of the original static components from the build. The 0G brakes were obtained in a trade, the wheels are from my old bike (I think I bought them for $750 on Craigslist two years ago), and the rest was obtained via Ebay or closeouts.

LOL - duly noted. Something tells me Evans will be wheelsucking more than ever, as the Canyon is perhaps the most unaero frameset I've ever seen.
