Sore Stomach/Midsection After Riding?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sore Stomach/Midsection After Riding?

I've been training about 4-5 days a week for awhile now and I'm just starting to notice this soreness in my midsection (Obliques specifically).

I think my bike might be a tad small and I haven't gotten a prof fit yet, but is this normal?

I had similar soreness when I first started, as if I had done lots of crunches. It stoped happening after a while.

I've been having this since I started racing and training hard. Now it's gotten worse, a lot of times it almost feels more in my lower gut almost if it was my intestines, I probably should go to the doctor. Maybe in your case it's that you're working out your core for the first time?

CAAD9 stifness might be causing it? All the shock absorption by the midsection might be taking a toll on me. I used to do lots of core work but took about 4 months off before riding more consistently.

Anyone else experience this at some point?

I was surprised how sore my core was when I first started riding last fall. I put in a lot of time at the gym working on my core (and everything else) over the winter and I'm MUCH more comfortable on my bike now.

Core work helped me out when this happened to me. Now after very hard workouts my stomach cramps up but that is a different issue.

I came from rock climbing to this sport, I had a rock solid core. Now that I've been cycling for the past year and a half I have lost much of my core strength. I still have a good core but nothing like I had when I was climbing all week long, it's just not possible. I have noticed that when you have a strong core everything physical is made easier. I'm not talking about working out either I mean just everything you do in life. Core is crucial.
