Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which would result in a faster ride.

Two riders TT a 10 mile course with a mix of flats and hills headwinds and tailwinds.

-Rider 1 averages an output power of 200 watts
-Rider 2 averages an output power of 200 watts

-Rider 1 weighs 150lbs.
-Rider 2 weighs 153lbs.

-Rider 1's bike weighs 19lbs.
-Rider 2's bike weighs 16lbs.

Go.

Too close to call; any number of variables could trump those differences.

Anyone in a V8, and most people in a V6 would be faster.

Go.
Without knowing position and drag coefficients, there's know way to tell.

One thing is for certain, though. At 200W average for a 10-mile TT, both riders are wussy.

The point is obviously whether it matters if the extra 3 lbs is in the bike or the rider. If the power output is the same, and they have the same drag coefficient (which is likely given only a 3 lb difference and your statement "all else being equal") then it shouldn't matter where the extra weight is; you still have to drag it up the hills.

That doesn't matter as both riders are constrained to the same average power outputs.

Actually, if one rider drafts the whole time and whips out a 2600W sprint at the end, he/she would definitely win but average power output would be the same...

Of course that wouldn't be much of a TT.

I take you off of ignore and this is what you give me. I just can't resist.

This is a different scenario then in your original thread.

The riders here would post identical times since they have the same overall weight and power output (assuming a constant 200w start to finish and are identical in every other way).

In your other scenario you made no distinction of power differences due to different weight's of the riders. In the other thread it was fair to assume a heavier rider outputs more power and a heavier bike tires a person quicker leading to a real world rider 2 being faster.

which one drank a redbull before the race? Because, well, flying would get him to the finish line much faster.

Well, assuming rider one has heavier wheels, wouldn't he be at a disadvantage due to rotational weight?

What if the rider with the heavier bike had half that extra 3lbs on his wheels? Even if there were no real climbing anywhere that would still mean that his acceleration from the start line might be .5- 1 seconds slower, costing him the win.

I am flattered you took the time to make all those screenshots but I took you off ignore a couple of days ago. I didn't say this was the first time I responded to you since then.

And there is no reaching. That is the answer.

I love riddles.....

A rider is traveling a 4 mile course. He averages 30mph over the first 2 miles. What will his speed need to be over the last 2 miles of the course to have an average of 60mph over the entire 4 miles.

Did he happen to move his water bottle to his jersey pocket at the 2 mile marker?
