Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What you WILL notice, though, is that the actual Italian Bottecchias are completely different. Bottecchia USA is a brand name that's been bought for slapping on generic Taiwanese frames.
Aren't most high end frames made in taiwan?

Yes Taiwan is generally considered to be higher quality than China.

Incorrect again. Not only is the cosmetic carbon weave different, so is the carbon grade. The PF frames weigh a little bit over 100g less than the BD "Bottecchias". Same mold, different carbon.

Having said that, the frame is decent, especially for the price. Been using one as my main ride for the last 14 months.

Finally, as botto said, use the search engine.

BOTTECCHIAUSA is located at 5950 FM 1960 West, in Houston Texas

This is a bike shop about 2 miles from my house. I will stop in tomorrow and check things out. They may only drop ship from this location. Anyone want me to look for anything specific?

pg. 42 of the latest Road Bike Action, "Initial engineering and startup costs for carbon are high, but after the frames are rolling out of the factory, the difference between "ultimate" and "affordable" frame technology becomes pretty narrow. Experts agree that the feel of a well-designed and executed frame made from the least expensive of the three grades of carbon materials is nearly indiscernible from the nano tube-filled ultra-high-modulus carbon used for the creme de la creme models."

Just face it you bought a no frills frame that is trying to capture the prestige of a boutique name.

And Please explain to me how licensing a name is illegal.(I bet you can't).

You can try to find a shred of integrity there, but I doubt you will find it.

Look at all the reviews that seller has! Bikers love that thing. Paypal has delivery guarantees and the feedback is awesome.

As much as we hate to admit it, China/Taiwan (I'm Italian BTW) sure can copy western stuff well. That's what they did at 1/3 the price (oh this hurts). So, if you want the western names, e.g C-dale, Colnago, Torelli, Pinarello, etc., get ready to pay. If you want a copy that's 80%-90% the same and labels don't matter - buy the bike. I would guess you'll be very happy.

I had my heart set on a Pinarello. But in the end, I bought a Taiwanese copy - Scattante Race (it's Italian, right?? :>( ). Well, maybe not but it's literally 1/2 price with the same layout and components and I just love the thing.

Fact is, most of those factories are running Pinarello's, Treks, whatever, from one door and their versions from the other door and they're the same frame! Don't think so, visit one day. I consulted Korea's areospace institute and saw this concept with my own eyes.

None of the above.

You are truly clueless when you state something that is totally a normal business practice is illegal.

I'm not a shill and this aint a BD thread

I'm not a shill and this isn't a BD thread. I saw this bike on ebay not on BD, check the link on the 1st post. The seller of these Bottecchia bikes aren't from BD, he is an ebay seller and apparently has a shop in Houston, Texas. I own a specialized s-works bike that I bought at a lbs. Just want another bike for long training rides really, and save the tarmac for special occasions. I'm thinking about going with the cheaper $800 model with ultegra components, since a similar bike at a lbs would cost $1600 or so.That's it. Stop the whole shill thing and let's start comparing these bikes to the high end bikes that lbss' are selling.

I did use the search engine, and nothing helpful really comes up as far as how these bikes compare. The results I get are usually threads based on the china frames that are selling at ebay. This guy is selling a complete bike.

This guy isn't just selling a frame, he is selling a complete bike, is based in Houstan, Texas, etc. I want to hear from people who have experience perhaps with this particular ebay seller, and have bought a complete bike from them and how they like it.

The search function here never seems to work right for me. I enter in something and I swear every thread on the first page shows up.

Just out of curiousity, what is the value of the bike less frame? I mean, even if the frame is crap, all you need is a new frame at some point.

And the stupid talking eBay ad just drives me nuts! Getting all nostalgic about something they really have zero connection with..... A history.

If you want a cheap bike.... buy the darn thing. Most people don't give a fiddlers fart what you ride. It's all between your ears what you think of it.

It isn't the same guy, this guy doesn't sell the chinese carbon frame / forks, he only sells complete bikes. Not sure what your issue is, but your either slow, or a low life troll. I think you are both. Now get out of this thread and let people who have had actual experience with this bike contribute to this thread.

Yes it is!!! Dude, really...botto and I and a bunch of other people here have the ADK frame bought from Bikes Direct over a year ago on a group buy (here in BikeForums). So we DO have experience with the darn thing!!!!! It has been discussed many, many , many times here that it is the same people.

Just a quick look at the gigantic font and copious use of RED on their listings should give that away...
