Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I didn't say cold rides, I said when it's cold. We've been through this before... I have Raynauds, it doesn't have to be very cold for me to not be able to feel my fingers. I wear long finger gloves for pretty much anything under 80.

that bike shop is shady as hell...tell them to give you the 09 Rival in its box and take it somewhere else to get it installed!

Or just DIY.
I've never done much wrenching of any kind and I bought a set of tools, took all 3 of my bikes apart, swapped parts (so I could use my PowerTap on my training and racing bikes), and put them all back together (myself). Just go slow. I saved a good chunk of cash that way.

No,I just try to keep my fingers warm and covered. It doesn't always happen even when it is cold. Most of the time at any given temp my hands are way too warm so wearing thicker gloves is not really an option. I've found pretty much the best balance between keeping them warm and not overheating the rest of the time that I can. If it's really cold there is not much I can but sit on them or shake them. Sometimes my wife will rub my hands with hers.

WHAT?!

NO, NO. They gave you something you didn't want/ask for, they didn't set it up properly, they greatly inconvenienced you. You should NOT pay more for getting the '09. They owe you for the inconvenience and dishonesty (and poor customer service). Don't pay an extra penny and get the '09 put in.

I guess I missed the Raynauds issue. I can understand. My GF and I both think she has it. If she rides below 60 degrees, it is double socks, booties and winter gloves for her.

Below 50 and she's uncomfortable.

Below 30 and she's crying.

Always feet and hands.

'09 Rival is the same as '09 Red, plus a few strawberries worth of grams.

There's no reason to accept older technology.

well, that's a good way to look at it I guess but the internals are different.

Plus there still isn't Zero Loss on the right shifter, correct? Or has that been updated too?

The original intent (and budget) was for '09 Rival. He should pay for what he asked. At this point, a discount would be generous and good customer service, but the shop shouldn't take a major blow because of a obvious communication error and a lack of motivation in the OP.

Correct

I'm not convinced that the only internal difference is the materials, but even if that is true that can affect the durability considerably. Rival and Force are identical inside. Red is different, but the extent of that difference I do not know.

I've got 09 red and 08 rival. I've also used 09 rival.

i'm still getting used to the shorter throw of red.

Dura Ace and Ultegra SL (7800 dura ace) seem to share the same internals. Better springs and internals that are lighter and more robust.

I wonder if that is the same for Red?

If I break my Red whilst racing, I'll be replacing it with Rival, most likely.
Maybe Force because I like the magnesium paddles so much, but they'd have to be on a heckuva sale.

can't you just get replacement levers? I mucked up my rival right brake lever and replaced it.
