Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rain Bike

Why is it that every time I show up for a group ride, I get the "Nice Rain Bike" comment? Albeit, I do live in Portland and it has been raining for most of the group rides, but really. I'll be showing up on it when it's dry out too.

Well, if you ride it in the rain, it's your rain bike.

Disc brakes, nice rain bike!

(edit: take it as a compliment from your buddies)

I had a rain bike, then I went and bought a white saddle, and bar tape. now it looks too nice for rain rides, it's my fair weather trailer puller.

Because you have disc brakes.

You need to get fenders + mudflap for the real rain bike setup.

No. If you ride it in the rain, it's your bike.

If you attach fenders/mudflaps and ONLY ride it in the rain, it's your rain bike.

My rain bike is a Cross bike. I put fenders on it, but they made to much noise on one of my favorite climbs that is a "tar & gravel" road, no fenders now. I get a little wet, but the bike cleans up great.

I have a bike I only ride in the rain. It doesn't have fenders or mud flaps. It's my rain bike.

I throw race blades on. However, they're not very photogenic.

I don't care about getting filthy in the rain, and I generally try to avoid group rides in the rain.

Whatever floats your boat. i'd rather keep my body and bike as road-crap-and-chemical free as possible.
