How are the Cannondale C1 carbon brakes?
I did a search on google, and BF and found nothing. I'm getting a bike soon with the Cannondale C1 Carbon brakes and am curious how they are? I rode on them and they were alright but definitely could use a better set of pads. Anyone know if they are worth the weight savings, or if there is even any weight savings at all? I was thinking about swapping them out for Zero G's but not sure, are the C1s just average or a good set of brakes?

I just swapped my C1 brakes out for a set of Zero G's. One of my C1 brakes weighed in at 170 grams, both of my Zero G's weighed in at 199 grams. The Zero G's stop better than the C1 brakes (flame suit on) but it's likely related to the quality of the pads on the C1 brakes.

Damn they're carbon and they weigh 340, kinda surprised; was that including pads and holders? That's a bit heavier than Dura Ace 7800. I'm sure the C1 pads didn't do them justice though, I mean when I test rode I wasn't really too concerned with the brakes, I liked how the carbon looked but they weren't very good, def needed new pads.
I love the look of the zero g's a lot, but I'm no spending over $275 for them, I'll have to ebay it.

Yes, but only because it's all about the bling... I've only put two rides (one a race) on them and they work very well. The stopping power is noticeably better than my C1 brakes but as I said before that's more likely to reflect the low quality of the pads on the C1's. The setup for the Zero G's was a little tricky as the brakes can be a bit finicky. Is the cost worth the weight savings? Probably not, but please refer to sentence one.

there's very little clearance between the pads and rim. even with the release cam open. so it's hard to get optimal adjustment without 1 side rubbing. the return spring controls the centering and it's kinda weakish. it can be done. just involves a bit o' cursing an hand wringing. hope his sub is better engineered.
also TRP who made the C1s no longer offer them. heavier than their alloy version.

If there's a side to side clearance issue with the Zero G's I might look the other way. It's not like I'm a wattage cottage, but I can flex my wheels in extreme situations and typically like to keep my brakes a little wider open just incase, esp during races.

Look they can't be THAT bad, they're made of carbon, they look nice. I've been running Cane Creek brakes on my trek 1500 they're re-branded Tektro and with some Kool Stops they've been great. Maybe not as stiff as DA or Ultegra brakes but more than effective. I definitely haven't come the conclusion that outside of bling it would be worth it to upgrade. I wonder how many people toss out great sets of brakes because they didn't try some $10 Kool Stops, it's a shame. The reason I'm interested in the Kool Stops is because I'm getting a nice bike and I think a set of Zero G's would look great.

Well we'll see, I have many other things to invest my money in, unless I come up on a pair of sub $250 set of Ti Negavitve or Zero G's I'm not going to go out of my way to get em'.

Nice, I don't know if I'm going to go with Zero Gravities or Negative Gravities Titaniums if I do go with the Camillo brakes. They're both incredibly light so I'd go for performance. Anyone know if the Negatives perform that much better than the Zeros?

i didn't feel any drop off in performance from my tektros with koolstops to my 0Gs with swissstops. i don't race tho. you should look at TRPs. considerably lighter than shimano. and are conventional 2 pivot. problem is you don't see them on ebay often.

Is this dual pivot stuff really that big of a deal? Everyone on here seems to instantly condem dual pivot... then Ciamillo seems to argue that their single pivot modulation provides smoother braking. Personally I don't need clamping I need smooth control for regulating my speed in crits. If I'm going to clamp my brakes it's because someone just fell in front of me and I doubt dual pivot is going to do much for me in that situation.
