Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is Repainting Worth it?

So do you think it is worth the money (say around $300-400) to repaint (clearcoat) a two-year old carbon frame that fits you, is comfortable, and stiff, but whose paint is chipped and otherwise ugly? Or is it better just to sell the frame for around $800 and get a new one (total cost for new frame around $1500)?

Vote.

Where's the option to just leave it alone and ride it as is?

I have to wonder what's happened to the bike that the paint is so bad after only two years.
Will you have to repaint it again in another two years?
If that's the case I'd just leave it.

Yeah. Get yourself a bottle of clear nail polish for $3 and ride it till the scwhag-purchasing bug gets the best of you or it dies.

I'd be concerned about a CF bike that had been beat around enough in 2 years to need repainting.

If we're talking a chip here and there, put nail polish on them, and ride the bike.

The paint is more ugly than chipped. And I'm ready for a change.

he's been waiting years for a frame to be painted. I think people stopped talking about it awhile ago, but he still doesn't have the frame

just get a new frame. The cost of the paintjob plus the fact the frame is 2 years abused makes it more worthwhile to just replace it. (of course that is if you must have a change. I would just ride it as is if it is not structurally damaged).

Yeah that. It's ok for your bike to look like you've actually used it.
