Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 1000 Bottom Bracket

I'm planning on upgrading my 2007 Trek 1000 to a 105 compact double. Does anyone know which kind of bottom bracket the bike has and whether I will need to change that? I want to get one of the lower end FSA cranks to use with it.
Bikepedia lists the bottom bracket as Bontrager ISIS with a Bontrager Sport, 30/42/52 teeth crankset.

105 compact = get a shimano outboard BB, english/ISO threaded

lower end FSA compact = depends on year made.

I would not be satisfied with anything less than taking the crank off, and visually checking what bottom bracket is there. Over the years I've seen many bike companies, including Trek, sending out their lower-end bikes with more than one kind of part for things like bottom brackets, handlebars, cranks, etc. It is always a very comparable part, and to the same gearing specifications, but they do it.

I would pop that crank arm off there to make sure, or just buy a new bottom bracket and crank together. A lot of replacement bottom brackets will be a lot stiffer, and probably lighter than what you have on there right now.

So if I just buy a new bottom bracket and a new crankset I'm fine? It doesn't really matter what I currently have? As long as it's english threaded?

correct
just match whatever interface the crank has with the BB.

shimano tiagra, R600 and 105 is way better over any low end FSA.

Fyi BB spindle length is not the same for double and triple therefore not exchangeable.

I'd go with 105 kit deal (including BB). I believe your model is english threaded.
