Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

6' and I've ridden everything from a 56cm up to a 62cm. 60cm and over felt too big for me. 56cm felt cramped. That's probably a great size for a crit bike, but I only do those once or twice a year. 57 is perfect, but most 58's are 57.5. That's close enough for me.

+1 I ride a 59 c-t-t and am the same size. Either size will work...smaller for a bit racier and bigger for a bit more cruiser, i.e. higher bars and shorter stem.

Small differences in frame dimensions can be offset by stem, post, and seat adjustments. The current fashion seems to be to get the smallest frame that can be adjusted for your dimensions and preferences. I'm 6'1/2" and ride 3 60's.

6'1" and on a 56cm... and had to shorten the stem at the fitting.

i'm 6'2" and ride a 58, 60 is too big for me surprisingly since my torso is slightly disproportionately longer than my legs. it really all depends on your particular proportions, i've even been comfortable riding a 56cm

I'm 6'1" and ride a 58 with a 120mm stem.

You can always stretch out a bit with a longer stem but it's hard to shrink a frame that's too big...

More fodder...er, I mean data points:

I'm 6'0" and ride a 58cm Cannondale & a 57cm Bridgestone. Admittedly the Bridgestone feels a tad "compact"...I'm not kicking myself in the gut or elbows or chin, but I definitely feel like a Big Guy on a Little Bike when I ride that. (It's kind of a neat feeling actually, though I'm certain I couldn't take that to any extreme & still enjoy it.) Recent pro fitting confirmed that 58cm was ideal for me.

Is your Trek a Madone with a seat mast?
I am 6' 1" and ride a 60cm Madone 6.9. With their -20, -5 +10 setback on either a 120 or 160 mm seat caps the sizing is pretty flexible. I have the 160mm -20 seat cap.
I believe the 60cm has basically the same dimensions as a 58, but the slightly set back seat mast made Trek call it a 60.

6'0

1) 58cm c-c Ritchey Road Logic with 120mm stem

2) 59 cm c-c Battaglin MAX with 110mm stem

3) 61 cm Bianchi 928 with 110mm stem. It's compact geometry with a shortish top tube. I have to use a zero setback seatpost, but the fit is excellent.

I don't know how they are now, but a Trek 58cm frame used to be too small for me - I think they measured C-T.

Thought I'd rehash this old thread. I went with the 60cm Madone 5.2 and I couldn't be more pleased. No more shoulder/neck/upper back issues. And oh...the wonders of carbon vs. aluminum. Very nice. Its interesting to note that the geometry and measurements make a 58 Allez and a 60 Madone very similar...but the ride is so much smoother on the Madone.

I'm 6'1", have long legs and a short torso and ride a 56 cm Specialized Tarmac. I think the long seat post looks awesome .

The guy at the LBS said the top tube on Specialized road bikes are typically longer than those found on other bikes, so I'd say the Trek 60 cm might be a good choice.

However, like others said, go get a fit. It was the best thing I've ever done . I bought my bike based on intuition, but when I was measured and numbers were crunched, the size was verified. Bike fittings are very good things.

Very similar - I'm 6'1", 92.5cm inseam, short torso, long arms. I ride a large (55cm) Giant OCR and a XL (57cm) Look 566. Back in the day, I rode a 63cm Diamond Back Interval, but it had a short top tube.
