Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

noob question, but someone mentioned an allergy to codeine which got me thinking... how do you know what meds you're allergic to? I don't know of anything I'm allergic to, but then I haven't had much in the way of prescription meds before. In the past I've always just said "no medical issues/allergies."

Thanks for all the good info. I ordered my RoadID last week, after reading this thread. You can use THIS link/code to save $1, if you do the same.

This has been on my must-get list for a while. So long as I've been riding with groups who know my contact information, I've not worried. But heading out for the summer with lots of solo riding, I need a way to communicate if I am not able to.

Here is my question: I am moving and don't know where I will end up just yet. For those with the interactive band, what do you have as the second line?

Thanks

NO NO A THOUSAND TIMES NO.

Keep the SSN off of public stuff. Take it from a lawyer who does work on ID theft issues.

(This advice is 3000. Please advise wherre to send Bill)

an attorney would know better than to exclude a disclaimer from what would appear to be legal advice.

I don't think identity theft is an issue because someone would have to get your PIN from the underside of the tag and call it in. Even so, SSN can be protected. I'll keep my interactive.
I went non-interactive. The wife is really good with the phones and I'm lucky enough to put NKA on it.

Of course I do have a product idea that ties this onto the tag. That way no fumbling to type things in.

And yes, if you develop this product I want 25% license fee for the first 1mil sold. Thanks

Read this today at work and was convinced riding with nothing but a cell phone hanging under the seat was probably not the best idea. Of course they are out of the color/size I want until July 15th. So, I ordered a tag from boomerang instead and will try to remember to get one of these next month as well.

Just got mine in the mail 2 days ago. My wife acted a little scared about it; it just solidified the fact that really bad things can happen while you're riding.

She know it's something good to purchase though. Plus i was able to fit text saying that i'm allergic to penicillin and that i'm asthmatic.

Edit: I got the ankle type.

i ordered my wife and i one we take turns riding while one of us watches the kids so it's mostly solo rides for us so it's comforting to know that she's got one on.

I made sure i put on the last 2 lines our blood type and any known allergies to medicines (none for us)

to the guy who asked about rh factors: I'm pretty sure the "negative" part of "o-negative" means "rh-negative". rh is an issue when you're given blood that is + and you are -.

Great thread. Wonderful to see medical professionals offering fantastic, real world advice. Power of the Internet.

I will be getting some form of RoadID/boomerang wrist tags very soon.

I have a weekend 40-miler that takes me out to the country. I ride alone. Sometimes, as I'm inching up a steep hill, I look to my right and see an abandoned tractor in a field, the rising sun glinting off rusted red metal. The only sound I hear is my tires grabbing at the road with each pedal stroke. Sometimes I'll think: "I haven't spoken a word in 20 miles," and I'll talk just for the sake of hearing my voice out in the middle of nowhere.

Then I hear a car engine revving up the hill and I immediately start focusing on my position in the roadway and I wonder if this driver is paying attention.

I wish I didn't have to wonder about drivers and whether they are paying attention. Something like RoadID eases the mind a bit.

cheers

Been wearing the ankle version for about 2 years now. G/f gave it to me since I ride solo almost all the time. She's a runner and she wears one too. Great product... never even though of putting blood type on it, I wish I had.

Just ordered the interactive version, great idea (I've had the other one for awhile).

I worked in a Level 1 trauma ICU for 10 years and saw way too many unidentified patients.

Don't worry that you don't have your blood type. If you need blood emergently in the ED, you're getting O-. And I can't imagine any hospital would give you typed blood based off a ID bracelet. They're going to t&c you anyways.
