How many of you guys ride vintage on the regular?
I just got my 80s peugeot working again and rode it 10 miles with a couple gnarly climbs. Im in the process of aquireing new parts to up the comfort level.
Anyways i had no trouble with any of the ride and its pretty amazing considering i havnt riden that "long" of a distance ever. Along the ride i found myself wondering what the draw of the newer lighter bikes are. And if there are any others out there like me who would rather do their riding on a vintage bike?
P.S. il post pics of the ride when i get home tomorrow.

I commute on my 1998 Trek 1200. I usually do about 15 miles a day on it. I have only taken it on a few long rides. It's a really nice frame and the old 105 components are pretty good. The bike weighs in around 23 pounds.
I used to have a 2008 Cannondale CAAD9 R6. I really like this old Trek though.

I ride an early '80s Panasonic. Upgraded from 105 Biopace to full Ultegra group and new paint. Except for tires and group, all else is original, and it rocks.

I just got off a 1980's Italian race machine about 5 minutes ago. Mostly ride new stuff, and 1998 does not count as vintage IMO, I have bikes from the mid 90's that blow the doors of of 99% of the bikes on the road today.

I still ride a 1990 Cannondale 3.0. Dura Ace with Campagnolo Omega wheels with Chorus hubs. I would have to spend a ton of money to beat this ride.

My fastest, lightest bike is my '88 Tommasini with downtube shifters.
My commuter is from 1983.
My MTB is from 1988.
My "other" bike is from 2007.

I've got a bunch of vintage steel and as nice as they are, most of my miles now are on my '05 CAAD8. I get a quicker jump to sprint, feel lighter on hills, and just plain feel less worn after a few hours in the saddle.

I ride an old stiff as nails cannondale 3.0 that I love. It's really responsive and just looks great with the huge downtube. My other ride is a centurion with 105 stuff that is smooth and quiet. It's the indian not the arrow. On my ride to work I saw a guy ride by as I was coming to an intersection. I had to cross the street and then make a left. By the time I got rolling in the the direction of the guy he was about 200 yrds in front of me. Took me a 2 miles before I caught and passed him. The best was him saying, "I wish you had a new bike so I wouldn't feel so bad."

You gonna eat that?
My newest bike is a 1994 Nishiki hybrid that I use for commuting. My newest road bike is a 1983 Raleigh Marathon. A tad on the heavy side (okay, about twice the weight of a modern road bike), it is an extremely smooth rider and keeps up pretty easily on group rides. If I was really concerned about traveling 10-15 lb. lighter, I'd be better served losing the weight in my body than in my bike.
Ooh, fancy! My Marathon has stem shifters.

My '89 Trek 1400 lives on the trainer now - I put NOS 105 front derailleur and crank on it, and some Shimano 600 brakes. Once I replace the sketchy front tire, I wouldn't have any worries about riding it out on the road.

I dunno if these are really vintage, but tonight I road a bike that I built on a 92 Schwinn Pdg Series 2 frame and last Sunday I took my 89 Schwinn 564 Aluminum on a ride with my brother who was on an 86 Schwinn Peloton. My new bike is a 05 Waterford RS22. The Peloton is my brothers new bike.

I have a mid- 80's SLX Atala that I raced and trained on up until 1999. It's got upgraded Campy Record 8 speed ergo groupo. I may be biased but that is my most favorite bike in my stable. Unfortunately, I have put on the feed bag much too frequently to even attempt to ride it. Fighting to get back into decent shape again.

It's my pissing about, not so serious, cruising and coffee shop bike. Every once in a while I'll do a 25-30 miler on it.
