Steve Larsen Gone at 39
I don't know how many of you saw the Velonews article this morning about Steve Larsen. He died last night during a running workout. They thought it was a heart attack, now they think not.
I admired him for being a multi-sport champion, and b/c he was my age and successfully competing at the elite level even with job and family challenges (five children).
He was on my list of people I'd love to ride with. Condolences to his family and friends.

And yet Keith Richards lives on. Odd how that works.
This is surprising and very sad. 39 is too soon.

Oh Man,
That is so F#$## sad. I emailed him some words of encouragement after he won that Lake Placid Ironman event. I told him I liked him in those Mongoose Titanium bicycle commercials where they said "this is the life of a professional cyclist" and they showed him mowing his own lawn.
He emailed me back to thank me for the encouragement and asked for my address and he sent me an autograph picture of himself with some kind words. How many people go out of there way to do that?

Very sad indeed. The Velo News article mentioned that Larsen rode for Motorola for three years. Didn't he also ride with LeMond on Z for a while? Either way, it's quite a shame.

He's a local here. We had a moment of silence for him at our weekly mountain bike race.
Rest in peace, Steve.
