Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cervelo S2 vs Tarmac Elite

So I'm looking to upgrade my bike and was looking at the above named bikes. They are comparably equipped with ultra integra gruppo.

I got a chance to test ride the cervelo today (and got to put it through its paces for a long ride today) and was thoroughly impressed. I'll be testing the Tarmac later this week.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on any of these 2009 bikes?

Also of note, before the end of the month, the Tarmac is on sale at my LBS for 2800 and the Cervelo will be about 3800 dollars.

Oh Sorry It's the Tarmac EXPERT, not the Elite

a $1k is a lot of money. I would wait for the $2800 price.

I got a chance to ride the Tarmac and I will say that the Tarmac expert is more comfortable to me and has good dampening when it comes to the ride itself. I most likely go with this instead of the cervelo. The cervelo is a sweet ride but is much stiffer vertically and imparts that stiffness to the rider. At least that's how it feels to me.

I ended up going with the Tarmac Expert. I was able to get a good deal on it. I got Mavic Kysrium SL Premiums instead of the Ultegra wheels for 500 bucks more. I was very happy. Got fitted and was able to take it for a long ride this weekend.

Flip it (the whole bike, not the stem)

The new stem's going to be longer, right?

Yeah no Cervelo for me. I really liked it but I liked the Tarmac ride a little more on the longer rides. Plus with the Sale price of the Tarmac (national and chain store), I was able to save about $1000 bucks over the comparably equipped S2 (all ultegra).

As for the stem, I'm going to be keeping the shorter stem because I don't feel to stretched out on the bike with it. It'll just be black instead of bronze.
