Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best Mid-priced bike

I just got into road biking this season with a mid 80's Miele Uno. I've added some aero bars to it and been doing 100k bikes every day that the sun is out after I'm done work. I absolutely love it.

I checked out some bike shops and it seems you get something rather mediocre for around 1500 bucks.

Given my Miele was only $250 CDN, I can't help but wonder what a $2000 bike would ride like. I'm sure certain advancements have been made since the mid 80's. Ideally, I'd like something that doesn't require parts to be upgraded...not looking for anything super professional, but certainly you should be able to get something adequete for $2000 or so...no?

For some reason the Bianchi and Cannondale I've seen have looked the coolest...what models do they have in this price range? I'd have to make a special trip, possibly to the US to check some out. Any other brands I should check out?

What is the opinion on the Opus Triton?

You can get good bikes for $1500-2000. Check out the BMC Streetfire ($1500), the Giant TCR Alliance 0(~$2000), and the Neuvation Carbon w/Rival ($1595).

that's a bit unfair to say that about the price. your bike has 20+ years of depreciation on it. if you could compare the original buying price of it to what bikes are going for these days that would be mroe appropriate

you can get a pretty mediocre bike used for around 750-1000

I like the BMC Streetfire recommendation that nOObL35 provided. Its a bargain.
