How I shaved 5 ounces off the bike!
Just for the fun of it, I decided to shave a little weight off my bike.
The first thing I did was upgrade my Specialized Alias saddle to the Toupe. (Thanks Road Fan!). That saved 2.6 ounces.
The next thing I did was upgrade my dura ace chain to a KMC X10sl with missing link. (Thanks Psimet!). That saved 1.4 ounces.
The next thing I did was upgrade a couple standard Performance brand 700 x19-26c tubes to a couple Michelin AirComp Ultra Light tubes. That saved me 25.5 grams, almost a whole ounce.
Final bicycle weight 16.9.
And total weight savings of 4.9 ounces.
Yea me!

A 2 pound dump?
What have you been eating?
Now a good 1/2 pound whizz in the morning?
Just saying...

Now...imagine if you clip your nails, cut your hair, take a dump AND do all the things that Nachoman did...you'll be golden!

Uber Goober
I started with a 50 lb bike (estimated, I haven't weighed the thing.)
I've lost about 36 lbs.
So now it's like I'm riding a 14 lb bike everywhere.
I expect to run that right into the negative numbers.

So is there any difference in the feel of those two saddles? I was looking at the Toupe Gel and I want something very comfy.

I'm running out of "little" things to upgrade. Next weight shaving idea is a $600.00 crank.

I've only ridden about 5 or 10 rides under 25 miles, and had no problems whatsoever. But the one ride I did which was over 50 miles, was a bit uncomfortable. I suspect things will be fine after another 500 miles. And in case you didn't already know, the Toupe is considerably more firm than the Alias.

I've been riding the toupe for a couple of years and i had an avatar and an alias as well. The toupe has been the best by far. I've run 3 10k vertical climbing centuries with it and didn't have any issues. That being said it does take a little while to get used to because it has less padding but more support.

I've had better luck with those michelin tubes than the standard performance ones. Quality trumps thickness in this case.

If you take a 2-lb dump you have bigger problems than the weight of your bike.
