We'll, I'll be the devils advocate here and say that I can see his point a bit, although I still don't buy the connection to Lance at all.
From my point of view, especially on this forum, it seems like we have got caught up in tech specs and grams and ounces, and securing our place in the pecking order between cars and bikes. We are losing the idea of riding just for the sake of riding.
I think really the only thing of value in the Op's post was that "we need to lighten up"
Get on your bike and ride it, don't ride it to prove a point, don't ride it to prove automobile drivers wrong, and don't ride it to be stylish, ride it for you.

Point of clarification for those who do not understand my connection between Lance and suffering, you should read his second book "Every Second Counts".
And, for those of you who cannot do that, here is a link to a Time Magazine interview with Lance https://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...488805,00.html
And for those of you who can't do that, here is a quote from Lance in that interview: I'm not happy if I'm not doing some physical suffering, like going out on a bike ride or running. First, it's good for you. No. 2, it sort of clears my mind on a daily basis. And it's a job. My job is to suffer. I make the suffering in training hard so that the races are not full of suffering.

^^Armstrong is a bicycle racer.
Bicycle racing is inextricably intertwined with pain (which is associated with suffering).
If you can't embrace the pain, you won't be a successful bike racer.
So if you want to be a bike racer, you're going to have to accept the pain.
If you don't want to suffer, don't race.
I don't see a problem here. I don't think Armstrong is saying everyone who rides a bike needs to suffer.
By the way, do you realize the irony with your signature line and this thread?

If the OP's post was the first earth thing space aliens managed to read, and used it as a cipher for understanding our language...

I don't know if we were arguing the connection between lance and suffering, but arguing the connection between your rant and lance-suffering. It just doesn't apply.
