Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Milner Pass on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday, May 18th. One week until it should be fully opened for the season.

And, oh yeah, having the road closed to motorize vehicles meant it was my own private racetrack for a few hours. That was awesome.

Not much of a road I guess and I was on my mountain bike. Nearing the top of Poly Canyon/Cuesta Ridge in San Luis Obispo at 2400 ft. From my GoPro set to snap pics at 10 second intervals.

Did some hill repeats after work today and then did some random gravel exploring. I hope you guys appreciate the pictures because stopping to take them brought a swarm of mosquitoes.

Sucks that I got my finger in this one.

Oh, I also got chased by a dog, but an aggressive, "Go lay down!" backed it right off.

Appreciated by me. That's somewhat the kind of roads I ride, only I call that a dirt road. They recently laid gravel on my dirt roads so they are pretty rough to ride on. That and I don't do hill repeats and then ride the dirt roads because the dirt roads are all hills. If it was my picture, the road would be extending up and out of the frame at the top.

That looks like a beautiful ride. I'd love to have something like that with just some up and down bumps rather than have my 100% speed differential of 3 mph to 30 mph (if I could pedal on the downhills rather than braking on the way down.)

The amount/of sky you folks are constantly showing in all your shots continue to amaze me. I barely ever see sky. We don't have shoulders along the roads. Our roads are lined with trees that are 2 feet from the road surface often with a hill bank as well. Then the trees.overhang the road so all you see of the sky is through an 8 foot gap up through the trees.

Heck, in the mornings I don't even get to see the sun until about 7:30 when it finally breaks above the hills and tree line along the horizon.

Couple shots from my ~windy~ ride down to Hampton, MN and back. Was windy enough to get me within 2 seconds of a KOM. Wish I had pushed it a little harder.

Here is a shot of where I'm heading:

Where I came from:
