Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hello - In one of those masters racers that does mostly only training races and weekend races. Speed on the flats is not an issue for me. I have doen a few easy centuries this year. In one week I am doing a 150 mile hilly charity ride. Please provide you opinion on would you would do this week to get ready.

In a week? Stay rested and hydrated. Find out what kind of gel, ect works for you and pack a load of it in your jersey. I'de even pack a few Advil or Motrin, whatever works for you. Eat and drink as much as possible, starting early in the ride. Easy gears on the hills, its not a race. Your fitness will carry you thru it if you don't bonk or dehydrate.

During if necessary. Use the liquicaps, as they're a little easier on the tummy and take effect a bit quicker.

Pace yourself, drink alot, and don't forget to eat while riding. If you've done a century before, you can do 150 miles. After 100 miles, my legs don't really get any worse feeling, its mostly the mental part that kicks in, telling yourself you can do it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, especially if you've done 100 miles without problems. As long as your saddle and position are confortable, 150 is just more of the same, and if you have race fitness you can fairly easily trade intensity for endrurance.

150 miles is a loooong ride. Resist the urge to hammer out of the box and you'll be fine.
